Student Dieting!?

The smaller plates and giving up junk food are a good first step. I think you should take it a bit at a time. Maybe instead of starting with entire meals start with just substituting things little by little, ykwim? Whole grain bread and pasta instead of white bead and pasta. Water and tea instead of juice and soda fruits instead of sweets. Hope things work out well for you!:)

You really should count your calories. You'll be surprised by your intake. Check out . It really only takes 10min max per day.

Portion control is key, so good move on your part.

Counting calories isn't that bad once you get the hang of it. I do almost automatically now. Lean Cuisines are delicious I love them, but you have to be careful some of them are really high in sodium. I also don't have alot of spare time (I am a student also, taking a full course load in University), you have to make the time to be able to cook good food for yourself, I usually cut into my free time (TV time or whatever) to do all my cooking and cleaning. Or you can try a major cooking session once a week (I used to do this) where you cook all your meals for the week and simply reheat them when you need to.

Huh, I tried this and it actually made me want to eat more. Good food was just so close with so little prep time. I think a large portion of that was because I'm a student as well and live by myself, so I'm home by early afternoon with nothing to do. This is actually when I realized that I eat when I'm bored, which is where the diary comes into play. When you can see how many calories you're eating and where they're coming from, it deters you from continuing.

I know you said you don't like fish, but tuna is extremely healthy and there are lots of things you can do with it. Just make sure to limit your weekly intake to no more than four or it could cause problems.

Why would you limit it to only four? I used to use tuna as a great source of protein when I was in college with no kitchen or fridge.

Supposedly it's high in mercury and can cause neurological damage. I think you're supposed to limit yourself to 3-4 days/week. There's been some recent articles on it. I'll see if I can find them.

I'm a student too and trust me, I KNOW your problems because I've been in college for a month and already gained five pounds. Without a doubt it is freaking me out! *sighs* What I'm trying to do is have my big meal in the middle of the day, and then just fruits for snacks afterwards while studying. At least am not gaining as quickly as my friends this way...
