Stretching/Cardio right before you lift?

Okay when I first started weight lifting I would always do about 10min cardio as I was told to do so, but did no stretching. I've been reading a lot and found out that even cardio was not really necessary according to some.

So all I've been doing now is do a warm up set with light weight, then go at it. But I've been feel pain in my joints recently since I started doing really heavy weight of rep 6-8.

I have two questions:

1) if maybe I should do cardio to warm up?

2) Also is stretching needed before you workout?, do I need to stretch my whole body or just the muscles you are working out? For example I'm working chest today, do I do a quick stretch for my chest?

I'm not sure what is actually "needed" before a workout. I do
however, feel better during and after if I stretch the particular
muscle group I'm working that day.

Also if I've had a pretty mellow day, I will do around 5 - 10
minutes of light cardio to get warmed up. With that, I generally
feel I get a better workout.

try different ideas and see what you respond best to.

myself, i wake up at 4am, at 4:15am i jump on the stationary bike for 5 minutes then i always start my workouts with a compound movement like squats, deadlifts or presses, etc

i do a light set, stretch, increase the weight a bit, do another light set, stretch again and then off i go.

i've been training 11 years and have stayed injury free.

i work from 6am to either 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, etc

too many evening workouts got missed from working late. now i get it done before work.

and i've done much better with morning workouts, also
