Strange Pain

Ok so I'm 16, 5'9, and 133 lb. I'm decently strong and have been going to the gym for the past 2 and a half weeks(since I got my membership). A couple nights ago I was benching about 95 pounds but was not going slowly and pacing myself, when I finished my set I realized I had a sharp pain at the back/top of my neck. I stretched it out and massaged it and it the pain only lingered around. Yesterday and today I tried doing pushups, and even simple curls and the pain is returning. My mom also has had this pain before for no reason, and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Help would be appreciated

it kinda sounds liek you were tensing up your neck while benching. I doubt you did any serious injury.

can you get someone to give you a good massaging where it hurts most? see if they can feel any swelling, etc.

I've heard of lactic acid knots, just a concentration of lactic acid in the muscle that needs to be worked out.

but if it persists for more than a couple more days, better go see a doc and make sure you didn't strain/sprain or pull something...but I wouldn't get too worried just yet.

YEa thanks, I havent been working out too much the past couple of days, just swimming and light weight, it seems to be going away.

See if it happens again....you should be ok if. If not, check it out /w the doctor. you never know what it might be. It can be somethin runnin through your mom's side of the family since you mentioned she had that kind of problem before.

Sounds similar to what happens to me once in a while when I am military pressing. I find that sometimes when I go pretty heavy for 6 reps on the military press I feel a pain right in the back of my neck/top of my back area. It feels like a little pinch, and I think it's just from tensing all the muscles up, similar to when my hamstrings cramp up when I'm pushing hard on the bench press lol. Anyways, It has pretty much gone away after a couple of workouts so I don't think it was anything serious. I'm not sure if you are experiencing the same thing I did, but it sounds very similar.
