stomach exercise

i am about 15 pounds overweight. i've been going to the gym recently
mainly just doing cardio, but i want to get my abs back like they were when i was in highschool. but is there a reason to work on my abs if i am 15 pounds over weight. i mean by doing stomach exercises does it at all burn any fat?
should i get my weight down then do stomach exercises? any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
You def. have to weight train, stretch, and do cardio WHILE you diet. Don't starve yourself and make yourself sick, but be consistent and work hard. The muscles will come out.

Also - I don't know how old you are, but the "high school ruler" is not a good one for comparison for most people. You were still growing then and I don't see how any adult can compare themselves to an older teenager, which is what a h.s.er is.

I have a better body than when I was in HS, and I lifted then.. I think you can do anything..
 
Doing only cardio without stenght training will only make you lose muslce. Sure you may lose some punds but then you will have saggy skin because you didnt strenght trian. I suggest that you do 3 days of cardio and 3 days of strenght training. Also without a good diet( not meaning starv yourself) you will never get what you want.
 
are ya'll saying i should work on my stomach even though i'm overweight.
from what ive read situps/crunches/etc. will not help with losing weight or burn fat. thats why i feel like i should first lose that 15 pounds then concentrate more on my abs.
 
keep working your abs...cuz when you lose that 15 pounds, your abs will show. Just because theres a layer of fat over your abs, dosent mean u shouldnt work them.
 
well I ve got to say..don t work out your abs now coz it will make your stomach look even more swollen...for the moment train your abs only with stomach vacuum....and when u will lose the exceeding fat than start doin again some crunches...but remember over-workin on your abs wont make your six pack more visible...instead some vacuum execise will help your stomach to stay flat coz it works on your transversus muscle and not on your rectus...

onestly I have a post(fight club-tonig) coz I have problem my self with abs..I m not fat at all but only the upper abs are visible...still everyone keeps sayn that abs is all about diet and not about specific training coz abs work in many weight exercises and also in cardio and aerobics...I m reporting things that the other members sayd to me....
