Stitches

I get these pains in my side when I run and I don't what they are. I don't know if they're cramps or what but I've always heard them being called "stitches". I would like to know how to get rid of these while running and how to prevent them. Oh yeah I run 5k cross country and I only get these pains when we run long distances. When we run sprints and things like that I don't get em but I need to get rid of these cause they're the only thing the keep me from being a good runner.
 
it might be because your body needs electrolytes, or you are simply not in good shape. i had these when i started running as well if it was not too bad i just ran til i finished if i had to stop i stopped... a good source of electrolytes are sports drinks, just train and it will go away, at least it did for me
 
One cause of side stitches is your breathing. If you start to feel your side hurt, start inhaling and exhaling deeply and they should cease. I’m sure you already know this, but also be sure to breath from your gut and not from your chest. If you are inhaling and your stomach is caving in, you are breathing incorrectly.
