Still trying to recover from a old shoulder injury

I injured my shoulder a few years ago. Was diagnosed with bursitis and a slightly torn ligament/tendon (can't remember which it was) that connects the bicep muscle to the shoulder. Did a little bit of physical therapy and it helped but i haven't been able to do a full workout routine since and its been 5+ years. I dont want to resort to corticosteroids because i haven't exhausted my other choices left. Although i am at my last one. Light workouts to strength the muscles have failed to produce any improvement. I've gone to sports therapy doctors and tried what they said but it always ends up in the same place. Reinjuring my shoulder. So i've been thinking about trying yoga and was looking for some insight on whether or not this could be a good thing. If anyone has any experience with yoga to help recover from an injury I'd greatly appreciate the insight :)

Currently i plan on doing some yoga for a few weeks before adding in a light workout routine. I was thinking about getting the perfect push-ups to do the workout routine at home. I have a pretty high impact job currently (welding/fabricating) so its always a struggle to not end up in pain at the end of the day.

I did a co-op at a Physiotherapy clinic so i may be able to give some advice;

- I'm assuming you are placing something cold on your shoulder frequently. you said it has been a few years so Cold can't hurt.
-Yoga would be an interesting one. You would have to ask the instructor if he/she is familiar with the type of injury you have. If she/he is aware of things you can do the sessions could be amazing, however with that said if the instructor is not familiar with the injury you may want to stay clear of yoga. Because if you attend a yoga class without your shoulder in mind, you could aggravate it even further.
-Hopefully the physiotherapists have given you some stretches in the past, try them. don't go too hard or fast, just hold it for 30 seconds when you feel a stretch.
-As far as exercises go they do take time. 5 years is a long time... When a PT gives you exercises they should be able to see small improvements each time you do them. One example that i can think of is throwing a tennis ball overhead ( ASK YOUR DOCTOR ). It's a common perscribed exercise for shoulder bursitis.
-corticosteroids are good for treating inflammation. Depending on why the therapist suggested it, it CAN be a great way to treat it. However even with the shot, you still have to exercise to fix the problem that started the inflammation.

I found a good article on your injury hope it helps

Take care, hope this helps

Let's start at the beginning here. What EXACTLY is the problem in your shoulder? You have to know what you are dealing with. If there is a tear in there then it could become progressively with exercise. You need a movement assessment to determine which movements are restricted and if there is any pain then for sure you have to go to a medical practitioner to get it taken care of. How exactly did you injure it? Did it come on slowly? Was it an accident of some kind? Asking a question like this over the web is impossible to answer in any credible way. Someone qualified really needs to be there in person to ask questions and watch what is going on.
