Stevia...healthly natural sweetner

A quote from Stevia Canada
"What is stevia? A shrub native to Paraguay, used for over 1500 years by the native Guarani Indians. A herb with an abundance of positive effects. The whole leaf contains numerous phytonutrients and trace minerals and is much sweeter than sugar with out negative effects. It can sweeten any drink with no calories, no carbohydrates, no tooth decay and is diabetic safe. Stevia nourishes the pancreas and does not raise blood glucose levels, making it not only safe for diabetics but also beneficial. Since there are no calories or carbohydrates, stevia is an excellent weight loss aid. It does not contains the negative side effects reported with the use of artificial sweeteners including aspartame. Adding stevia to your diet on a regular basis, it has also been reported that it can help minimize hunger sensations, cravings for sweets or fatty foods, aide in digestion, decrease hypertension without effecting normal blood pressure, stabilize blood glucose levels, shorten recovery time from cold and flu and aide in addictions to tobacco and alcohol. When used in toothpaste or mouthwash, cavities and gum disease is reduced due to its antibacterial properties."

Yeah. It's very, very sweet. But it has a distinct taste, and for me, it doesn't taste as good as sucralose - which for my money is a better sweetener.

Nope. It's kind of like a sharp sweetness. Hard to describe. You know how coke and diet coke have a different kind of sweet taste? There's a similar analogy between sugar/sugar-extracts and stevia.

actually coke and pepsi taste the same to me, LOL! but thanks. to hear the way websites describe stevia it sounds like a miracle product, i wonder if i'd actually like the way it tastes now.

I didn't say the difference between coke and pepsi. I said the difference between Coke and Diet Coke.

you sure did, LOL! sorry. i hate diet coke, so if stevia has that similar aftertaste, that is it's obvious it's not sugar, i think i'lll skip it.

How can you not tell the difference between COKE and PEPSI? Hell, I can tell the difference between those and RC COLA, SAFEWAY SELECT... damn, maybe I drink too much soda!

yeah my wife always tells me pepsi is her favorite over coke, but i dont think in a blind test i could tell one from the other. the colas all taste the same to me.

I didn't really like the taste of Stevia either, hella sweet but not really in the sweet I like way. Probably an acquired taste, I have gotten used to diet soda and find the regular stuff too sweet now.

Stevia does have a distinct taste but you do get used to it. It's fine in tea and stuff. I just don't like using sweetners because there full of synthetic chemicals and chloride. I'm afraid of the side effects. For me it's a little Stevia or sugar. At least there both natural. Honey is pretty good too.

well i tried stevia myself finally, i was given some sample packets that measure out just like sugar sweetnesss-wise. i tried it in coffee and couldnt tell the difference between it and sugar, or splenda. i'm gonna try and use it in some other things as coffee isnt the best gauge for me to tell. but if it works in protein shakes i might pick some up after my splenda runs out. i actually use very little of either, though, seems like manufacturers make everything 10 x sweeter than i can stand.
