Staying motivated

When I first started dieting, I joined these boards at 255 lbs in may 07. I've had my fair share of breaks and mistakes between then and now, but have managed to go down to about 196 lbs.

Unfortunately, I'm just not motivated anymore, I'll eat healthy a couple of days, then ruin it the next few days. I have only been to the gym once in the past month as well, before then I was going 4-5 times a week.

So my question is, what keeps you motivated in the long run, after a year?

spend some time searching around the forum - this question has been asked a million times... and everyone is going to have a different response.. motivation comes from within you..

Why do you want to lose weight and get in shape - that is your motivation... if you don't know why -and you can't answer that question... explains the lack of motivation...

Goals help you stay focused -otherwise you just flail about.

How are you defining "ruining" it - is the diet you're putting yourself on too restrictive? is your workout too hard for you?

I have suddenly found my motivation again. After spending yesterday eating more than I should have and going to the gym, putting on my workout clothes, working out for 10 minutes, changing, and then leaving (sad I know), today is a completely different story. I don't know where its coming from, other than I hate feeling bad about how I look, but I'll take it. I had a great workout just now. I only hope it continues long enough for me to start losing again, which should then keep me motivated to keep going.
