I'm 29 years old, have two kids 3yo and under, I stay at home fulltime. Since November I've gone from 229lbs (i'm 5'8") to 194lbs. I am losing my membership to the gym the end of this month as money is really tight and we can no longer afford it. I'm aiming to lose another 50 lbs by October this year. Since I can no longer go to the gym I need some help as to wht sort of at home workouts are benficial and will burn the most calories. I'm getting frustrated- i've repeatedly gone up 2-3 lbs and back down 2-3 lbs over the last few months. I'm ready to either do something drastic or just quit all together. Does anyone have any ideas for me? My oldest son doesn't nap during the day and doesn't allow me to do more than 5 pushups at a time without jumping on me. I just really need some advice....before i do something I know will be bad- out of desperation....

How about doing something with your kids. Encourage them to see exercise as fun. Make it a game. If your son wants to jump on you, then lie on your back and do "kid presses" raising him above your head. Do jumping jacks with him. Run around the yard ... do "races" where you sprint back and forth. Play games with him where you drop things and pick them up (makes you squat).

With 2 kids you have built in weights ... take advantage of that! :)

If you have stairs, run up and down the stairs. Teach your kids to count by getting them to count the number of stairs you run or the number of times you go up and down. Or make them your "trainers" and let them count situps or pushups or dips. He can sit on your feet and "hold you down" while you do crunches.

Not only does this get you lots of exercise, it teaches your kids that exercise can be fun and not something to dread. It becomes a game to play with mommy.

Anything that rsises the heart rate will burn calories.
Grab the kids skipping rope and play outside with them. Often i get the kids to bike to visiti their friends and i jog alongside them getting three times the exercise. Then i have to jog back home and then back to pick them up etc. ... luckily i live in a small town, but one day it was a 20km jog there and back just once! (picked them up in the car that day!)
If you have a Wii game console they are also good, or a playstation eye. You can pick them up cheapish second hand nowdays. Also a good game of soccer, tennis, etc doesnt cost anything.
In fact often local netball or similar teams dont cost a lot to join and are much more fun than going to a gym :)

i once bought a bunch of second hand workout videos and first thing when i reached home was pop them in the player to see what each was like....they were all fine except one that was packaged in the wrong cover....if i remember correctly it was a workout video called mommy and me, it was a lady with kids doing lots of fun stuff that involved the kids too. i'm sure if you check on google or youtube there should be some results.....i just thought i'd mention since you asked....otherwise i hope you'll find something suitable that you enjoy, all the best xoxo

Yes, I was also going to suggest workout videos. Maybe you can find one that has an effective 10 minute workout? And maybe your kids will watch with you and maybe even do it with you.

I babysit a 1.5 year old twice a week and a couple of times we have done a dance workout together. He just jumps around and I dance. We can't do it for more than 15 minutes or so, because he doen't like more than that, but that's good enough for me :)

I love workout videos too. We also go to the playground and I do a playground workout while playing with them (swing pushes with squats, dips and step ups on benches, pull-ups on monkey bars, etc.). I have also found short HITT sessions to be really good. I can find a few 10 minute spans in my day to do them and it adds up. I like 50 seconds work 10 seconds rest of jump squats, push ups, burpees, alternating lunges, plank jacks, mountain climbers, floor dips, hip bridge, crunches and box jumps. It really gets me sweating!

I agree with the idea of engaging with your kids. Our youth are some of the most active humans on the planet and if anything, they have a great grasp on staying active and more importantly, having FUN doing it.

Walking with your children is a great idea, it will allow you to relax and enjoys their company. As an adolensent nature is something interesting that can be explored while learning and having fun. This will excite them each time you want to go out for a walk. Not long ago my mother and I went to Yosemite National park in California, the constant movement on foot was great, but we really had a blast climbing a bunch of rocks at one of the falls inside of the park. I could tell she was having fun and interested, but she didn't exhaust herself either.

Another awesome method is simply allowing your kids to mess with you while you work out. Sometimes the stress of being disturbed or challenged puts an extra charge in your system to really get the most out of your workout. Have them push you down every time you do a push up or do push ups with you. Compete to see who can get the best results, whatever that may be(most push-ups, who does the most fundamentally correct, who can do a push up hold the longest, etc.). The point is, kids can be the easiest, cheapest way to stay active and have fun doing so. Activity=Fitness.

Also, if this happens to be not as convenient to you, there are other options to getting the results you want here, on the web. I am subscribed to an AMAZING newsletter. The writer constantly sends Emails for free give aways and tools. The letter constantly updates methods for weightless and muscle building/generation/restoration. I wish I could post the link here, but it's in my profile. Even initially, for joining the newsletter, I got a FREE report. I was astonished how much value I was getting right from the start. And for free! The guy does do some products that are also very helpful, and for those that can afford it, they're REALLY helpful and worth it. However, he's not a spammer and really gives great advise on this stuff. I recommend you join the newsletter, the link is on my profile, or you can PM me, if you want to chat.

Hope I helped!
