Starting Over

In my 20's I joined lots of gyms learned some things but then got bored and quit. Now in my 30's I want to start exercising again. But this time at home.
Right now I've been walking about 2x a week and I have joined WW. for 1yr I have only lost 8lbs. :( I eat way to much protein/sweets and little carbs due to still being hungry.

I'm 5'3 187 and my goal is to get down to 140. I still have allot of muscle tone in my lower body but lack greatly in upper area.

Do I focuse on cardio or weights? I really don't know where to began.

Any suggestions would help!

Thanks

I guess it depends on how hard you want to hit it. I'd recommend taking a good look at your diet and setting some boundaries for yourself and then doing cardio and resistance training.

I can say that from personal experience, my metabolism took a nose dive when I hit 30 (or at least it felt that way). I'd recommend cardio 5x/week anywhere from 30-60 mins and resistance training about 3x/week. If you've been out of the loop for awhile, take it easy when you get back and work your way up.

Thanks for the info.

When doing resistance, I start with a low weight, 3 sets, and 8-12 reps right?

Yes, 8-12 reps per set...but for the first couple weeks, stick to 1 warmup set, and 1 working set, to get your body acclimated to weight training. Last thing you want is to be so sore you don't want to workout.

Also, you say "too much protein/sweets...not enuf carbs..." sweets are carbs...and protein is good as long as you're not on the Fatkins plan and eating as much fat as you are protein.
