Starting over again!

Hi I'm Bex,

I've struggled with my weight my whole life but when I got to 16 stone a few years ago I had had enough, I ate right and started running and lost 2 and a half stone, but slowly over the last two years that weight and more has crept back on, so 4 weeks ago I started running again and eating below 1400 calories a day. My starting weight was 231 pounds and my current weight is 221. I'm just looking for a bit of support to keep me motivated and it always helps to see others inspiring journeys!

:)

Hi Bex, glad your here! the thing that motivates me the most is your health. When overweight, there are so many increased risks of illness. Try to stay on the wagon at all costs but, when you do occasionally fall off, think of tomorrow as a new day and jump right back on with excitement. The big problem comes when we become discouraged that we fell off, that we stay off.

Welcome to the forum, I'm new here myself and it looks like we're in the same boat (I'm heavier than you are by 19 lbs). Have you started a weight loss diary yet? I'd love to compare notes :)

Welcome to the forum.

I have to say that 1400 calories sounds a bit on the low side to me.

The majority of people maintain weight on a calorie level of 15 times their weight in calories and will lose weight on between 8 and 12 times their weight in calories... You weight 221 pounds and 221 * 8 is 1768 calories... Setting your calorie level too low can make things tougher further down the track if you stop losing weight as your body gets used to surviving on fewer calories. It can also make maintenance more difficult.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.

Hi thanks for replying, I'm still trying to get my head around the whole nutrition side of dieting, I've always presumed the less calories you take in and more exercise you do, your gonna lose the most weight, but the more I've looked into it doesn't seem the case. So many different places say so many different things so I think it's gonna take a while before I understand it properly!

So Bex, what more specifically seems to go against accepted practice of calorie deficit = losing fat? Generally, losing fat is a pretty simple process. Try to not let false theories and "opinions" derail and delay your path to losing fat, I know on the Internet there are ten thousand ways to lose fat, a great many bogus, money making shams.

I think that they key thing is finding something that is going to work long term and is less likely to get stuck half way there with little wiggle room to step things up...

Also there has been lots of research to show that certain things can be beneficial - not only to good health but also weight loss... If calories are too low - it is very hard to hit a number of nutritional targets...

For instance it has been shown that having at least 1000mg calcium a day from a dairy source is beneficial for both good health and weight loss... Lots of us know that the calcium can build our bones and especially women have at the back of their mind that they do not want osteoporosis when they get older... Lots of people do not know that it can impact how we lose weight or that there is a difference between dietary sources and a vitamin pill...
