Starting over again

Hello everyone, my name is Sean. I just started taking my life back today. I would like to get involved in this forum as a support group.

I am 31 years old.
6'3"
350lbs

Years ago I was athletic. Played basketball and football mostly. Some lacrosse. Anyway, I am trying to start fresh. I have not been inside a gym in years. I used to be ashamed to walk into the gym because I can't lift what I used to lift. But now I am a bit more wise. I am no longer worried about anyone else in the gym but myself. I do not have a solid fitness and nutrition plan yet.

What I have planned on is to start out the first two weeks with just cardio to get my body moving. I also started cutting my sugar and carb intake down as well.

can anyone direct me to a thread here that helps beginners with their nutrition.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks again

Sean

Hi Sean and welcome to the forum! I hope you find everyone as helpful and supportive as I have found.

What kind of nutrition information are you looking for?

Hi Sean,
This is a great place to come and learn.
Just reading what people are doing to loose weight
and having an open mind, are working for me.
(I still need to work on the "work out" part)
But I went to the diaries and got some example's on what peoples diets were, learned there pattern of health-found one that fit my life style
and set that as a starting point, and it has worked so far.
That is just what this newbie did:)
Good luck, with your new life!

you are going about it the right way buddy, getting back into exercise 1st i feel is the most important part, most are too lazy for that

start slow, with both ur exercise and your diet changes, you dont want to do anything too dramatic, get into a good routine exercising and make sure u enjoy it too, set urself goals and work to them, whether its timed exercises or target weights to lift

slowly add more natural things to your diet, vegetables and some fruits and slowly take out the processed crap

when you are into a good and steady routine enjoying what ur doing then its time to start refining everything, but untill then just get back into working out my friend! :D

This thread:
Nutrition 101

has a lot of useful information on nutrition... plus Kdel's right, check outo ther peopel's diaries to see what they're eating... you might get some good ideas..

Thank you guys so much. I am going to check out the diaries right now. I do plan on starting out slow with both nutrition and exercise. As far as the nutrition goes I am going to try and keep most of my food fresh and most of my meat lean. I will ease out the starches and increase the good carb veggies.

The exercise I will start out slow. Last time I pulled a muscle because I over workerd it. Trust me I learned from that experience. I figure I will do all cardio for the first few weeks. Just to get up to 50 minutes or so. And then add the weights ( which I know are very important, especially when It comes to burining calories)

Does anyone know what body measurements I need to take and keep track of monthly. As I said before I like to stay away from the scale.

waist size is an important one.. because the higher the waist size, the increased chances of certain disease occur...

Mal; I am so glad you you put up the Nutrition 101 link!
Thank you for doing all the Home work and letting us copy
your notes!
