Starting back up

Its been a while since I have worked out and watched my diet. College and work has been kicking my butt, however, my girlfriend and I have decided to start back up and I have a couple of questions.

How many calories does one need to burn to lose weight? I know it differs with males and females but say I ate 2600 calories a day and she ate 2000 calories a day. What would we need to burn when we are working out to lose our extra weight? Is there a formula? The above calories is not correct but we are working on our calorie count right now.

Also, I know that just sitting the couch watching tv, you burn calories. Do I need to take that into account with the above calculations on what we need to burn?

We have a treadmill and exercise bike. Will the exercise bike work just as good at the treadmill on burning fat? That is we are doing HIIT on both peices of equipment? The reason I ask is because I like to run and she likes to bike. I know the treadmill will burn fat for me, past work outs, but I dont know abouit the bike.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

It all depends on your current weight. Google a search for "calorie intake calculators" then fill out the blanks to get your current weight maintenace number, then subtract either 500 calories (for 1 lb loss) or 1000 calories (for 2 lbs loss).

Either method (bike and treadmill) work for fat loss, just switch it up when your body becomes accustomed to it.

Alright, I looked at those and came out that I need 2600 caleries to maintane weight. So are you saying gor me to lose a pound a week I need to consume 2100 calories a day?

Thanks.
