Starting Anew ... in every way

Greetings! I am 50 years old and starting my life completely over. After 27 years and 2 beautiful, wonderful children my husband left me for a coworker. After the grief and fear subsided, I realized that I had completely lost myself in that marriage and always put myself last. Because of that my weight had creeped up over the years and I was FAT!

My kids were both in college and well on their way to being on their own. I was alone and decided to start living for ME! I sold that big house and moved into a new condo completely decorated according to my own taste. I started Nutrisystem and started to pursue personal interests of all kinds. While I was getting a life I managed to lose 40 pounds of unhealthy fat with Nutrisystem (yes it does work!) even though I was in a cast most of the time due to a broken foot (I had some adventurous interests!).

I went to my 30 year class reunion and "re-met" a man that I would have never dated in high school. He was a bit of a bad boy (rebellious preacher's son!) and I had been a goody teacher's pet type. He was a widow (wife died tragically after a long, terminal illness) who had been faithful and true for the 24 years he had been married. Obviously, this was very attractive to someone like me! We really hit it off that night and 18 months later we were married. At 50 years old, I became a new bride!

My husband is a great cook and he loves to cook all our meals for us. That is also the problem ... I've gained 15 pounds! I discovered this when I went to the doctor for my yearly checkup. WAKE UP CALL!

I immediately came home, opened up my FitDay (that I should have never stopped doing) and recorded my food/drink for the day. Next, I ordered a treadmill (Pro Form Weightloss XP 620 from Sears). In this first week I have lost 3 pounds. The treadmill came yesterday and my husband is putting it together today. I am committing to walking a minimum of 30 minutes per day and working up to using the weight loss programs that come with the treadmill.

My goal is to blast off these 15 pounds and lose another 15-20 as that will bring me down to a "normal" weight for my size. My husband has been great as he loves me "as is" but will also encourage me in my quest to be better. I'm looking forward to finding friendship and support on this forum.

What a great story...and romantic too...the second part that is, lol. With your positive upbeat attitude I doubt this will take you long and you seem to already have everything lined up. Fitday, treadmill...yep sounds good :) I'm sure somebody will come along and recommend reading the sticky threads, there's alot of great info. Plus just some amusing monologs and rants, lol. There's also a weightloss diary section you've probably already found. Anyway I could always use a new weight-loss buddy so hopefully we'll talk again soon. Welcome to the forum ~Lisa

Thanks for the tips

Thanks for the tips Lisa. I have read some of the stickys but need to read the rest ... and probably re-read about a 1000 times! You'd think at my age I would learn that I need to be vigilant about my weight always. I intend to check in here every couple of days to be sure I am staying on track. It helps to diet with friends!

Awsome, and welcome. You know it's funny how many people meet the love of their life later in life and class re-uniouns.
Good luck! You can do it.
