Hey all

Ok so I posted here around 8 months or so ago about my weight loss. I have gone from around 250 lbs down to 180 and am VERY happy with where I am. I have a great deal of confidence and am loving life. But ive been staying right around 180 for about 6 or so months with only certain dips and gains but being consistent at that 180 mark. Although I am happy where im at and I believe to be pretty healthy, I want to go even further.

Im a 21 year old(almost never drink) male at about 6 foot 3 inches and like I said, about 180. So im pretty tall and apparently "slender" according to some, but I still feel fat and out of shape. My belly isnt really big, but it is a little flabby and I personally hate it with an utter passion. I cant even take my shirt off without sucking in and trying to look skinnier. Im really just looking for a flat stomach and basic surfer/swimmer/skater physique.

Now I have started a vegetarian diet (Well sorta, just cut meat out of my intake) because my girl friend wanted to try it, and I want to support her. Plus I figured less meat isn't that bad of a thing. But other than that I try to eat pretty healthy with the occasional treat like pizza or ice cream (in the correct amounts of course :p). I run and skate on occasion but havnt done it as often as I like. I rarely do weight lifting, but I really dont care to build big muscle. Just enough to keep me "fit". Overall though Im still WAY disgusted with the way I look and I just feel unattractive.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hey Redraptor!

A big congrats to your weightloss. Incredible change from fat to skinny. Way to go!

Looks like you are at a pretty good weight to me. In my opinion, I think you need to tone. And to do that, you need exercise. Now I don't know exactly what exercises you need, but I would guess the cardio excercises like aerobics, running, biking, etc. Your not going to get big by lifting weights unless you really want to...that in itself is another can of worms.
But I think physical activity would improve your physique.

Keep up the good work....again, Awesome!

you don't need to lose any......you look sexy & attractive
you did great job So keep the shirt off & be glad with the way you look now

Just tone

You have some loose skin which is normal considering the weight you lost. To get the look you want you're going to have to do some resistance training.

If you don't want to hit a traditional gym and lift weights look into something like cross fit.

If you do hit the gym try and keep the reps up around 12-15 or higher and reduce the rest between sets. You won't bulk up and will get the ripped look you want. Look at the posts by "little riddick" on this site.

WOW!

Congrats redraptor.

That some change. Actually you from a woman's point of view, you look quite good. I can't give you any body building tips, but just keep on running to keep your body state as this, and also running will increase your cardio which is a must if you want to do body building.

Thank you all for the helpful advice and nice comments. My biggest thing for all of this is trying to get rid of some insecurities. Im having so much trouble trusting my girlfriend (its a new relationship) because im always afraid she is going to leave me for someone better looking. Its ridiculous because she says I look GREAT. But still I have it in the back of my mind and its effecting the relationship. i just feel like im never good enough. Im not so sure its really a physical thing that I need to work on or more of a mental thing. Of course im relatively happy with my looks, but im still not 100% satisfied with everything.

@Caddyguy: I was looking at his thread and thats awesome. Vin Diesel is one of my favorite actors and Riddick one of my favorite characters, but thats WAY to big for me. Again I don't want super muscle definition like. Just an average fit looking person. I mean look at the second photo is what I want to look like. Just a flat belly straight down with no sagging or loose skin. But not ripped either. I dunno maybe thats just a bit out of reach right now. Thank you in any case.

Anywho thanks again for the help. Any more advice about how to get that flat belly/more attractive look down would be much appreciated!

You have no reason to be insecure with the way you look.

The problem is, you still think you look like you did when you were fatter.....and you were very insecure back then. So whatever she tells you, its falling on deaf ears. Listen to her...she has no reason to lie to you.

Be confident! You earned it!

Take care

I rarely do weight lifting, but I really dont care to build big muscle. J
This is your problem.

You don't need to lose weight. You need to firm up. I'd suggest you really learn about weight lifting. You don't have to build big muscle if you do it right. You're not going to really bulk unless you work your ass off to do it. Yes, as a male, you have the testosterone to build more muscle than women, but you're not going to get really big by properly lifting.

Start with the thread in the exercise area called The Conceptual Side of Weight Lifting. If you read it through you'll find that a lot of the myths out there about weight lifting are just that ... myths.

Hmmmm Ill check that out. Thanks a ton for the advice.

Again I think this is mainly a mental thing. I obviously want to look better, but I think its just the self confidence issues that ive been battling for 10 years. And now that I have little reason to be self conscious, Im unable to actually come to gripes with it.

I mean just today, I ate quite a bit more than I usually do, (which is often not a whole lot) and I feel absolutely AWFUL. Not sick or anything but just FAT. Like nearly to the point of just wanting to throw it back up. And Ive NEVER even thought about that before. Im starting to get a bit concerned with the way Im thinking. Im far from being anorexic, but like I said, im concerned that im over obsessing.

Ive also been under a TON of stress lately so that could possibly be leading to my crazy thinking ha ha. But starting next week im getting REALLY serious about my diet and working out more often and for an extended period.

Dude you and I are like the exact same person. I am 6'4. Used to be around 260. Now I am about 180. I hate the little bit of extra skin/fat that I have left on my belly and just wish I could get rid of it. I have the same struggles that you do with eating over over obsessing with my body. The only advice I can give is just do your best to be happy with yourself. Find things that you like about your body and focus on those. My girlfriend has been SO helpful through my process. I actually lost too much weight because I wanted to be really thin. I got below 170. For someone of my size that was unhealthy. She helped me realize what I was doing was not good. Now I try not to worry as much, but it is still a struggle.

I have been lifting now for 8 months straight. To reiterate what others have said, you won't get huge if you don't want to. I also don't want to be huge, and am just going for a lean, toned, cut physique. I just cover the basics with my lifting. It is pretty cool to look at yourself in the mirror and see all of that hard work come to fruition. It really boosts your confidence. I would highly suggest that you consider some kind of a weight training program.

Good luck. Keep fighting the battle. There are others out there just like you.

You shouldn't feel fat at all, my friend. You're quite attractive and look fine as you are. So get that outta your head. ;D

I can understand wanting to get toned up, though. After reaching my goal, I'm going to take it a step further; tone up my tummy, define my curves, perfect my butt, and work on my chest. - So, I can see that.
