So, My story isn't anything interesting just the usual 16 year old kid that does no exercise, Eats junk food everyday and sits infront of the computer/TV all day. Well I for one am SICK off it! I hate when its a summers day and I have to roast away, Slowly cooking in the sun because im to embarrassed to take of my shirt. I also feel like i'm missing out on a lot of things my friends are all doing. I am around.. 6ft and weight a whopping 223.8lb. I am pretty strong also and can over power most people around me, Not by throwing my weight towards them but just general strength. I'm also the arm wrestle champion in my class for 2 years now ;). I have read a lot of inspiring threads where most of them state they were the athletic type in High School and used to be tanked out with a full on 6 pack, Sadly for me, I have always been the largest around me. When I checked my weight a few months ago I was stepping up to 200lb's and I had the shock of my life. I jumped on the floor and thought I wouldn't get up until I had done at least 1000 pushups. But to my surprise I struggled to do a single pushup! I was depressed for days and then somehow just.. forgot about! Now, I am deciding to loose weight for the LAST time! I enjoy eating healthy foods its just not always the most convient option. Damn, I've typed a bit now.. Guess I should upload my 2 before pictures, I will update this with any major changes and upload new pictures weekly. I'm not sure if you guys will get why I have removed my face, But I done it because for me this is embarrassing and when I look better, I may upload the original pictures with my face showing to show how bummed out I look and you will be able to compare it to the 'New Me' Thanks for reading!

Hi Astro

Welcome!

There's no need to be embarrassed here. We all can relate at some level to the position you're in. Your current situation seems very manageable though. 6ft and 223 is considered obese, sure, but only slightly above the overweight mark. According to the BMI calculator I use, you have an index of about 30.24 (25-29.99 is considered overweight). When I first started, my BMI was 55.67! So, it's nothing you can't tackle with just some steady changes in your lifestyle.

Remember, it's all about sustaining a routine and patience. Don't let the fact that changes don't happen immediately discourage you because they will come in time as long as you don't give up!

Also, it's great you recognized the issues you're facing and are taking steps to correct it. I can really relate to how you feel when around your friends. I always had the shirt on at the pool/beach when I was younger, and not just because I burned in the sun like some kind of vampire! :p

Another advantage you have is your age. You're lucky to be doing something about it now while you still have you teens and 20's to look forward to. I wish I had the fortitude to do something about my own situation when I was your age, but unfortunately I didn't. That's just something I'll have to live with, but you don't have to!

I really hope you find the motivation, inspiration, and information you need here, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you ever feel the need!

Good luck!

Definitely. I started trying to lose weights in my teens, and I lost something like 20 pounds in 2 months and stopped. Definitely do not let this happen to you! I have wished countless times (after beginning to lose my weight) that I would have stuck with it and lost it all back then.

You can do this, and you will be happier overall if you stick with it.

A little pain and hard work now to enjoy the rest of your life is definitely worth it... and at 16, your body will bounce right back to awesome-ness; you'll look and feel great forever if you start a healthy life this young.

Good luck on your journey :p

Woww 2 replies so far :D This forum is great and I feel a lot more motivated when I see the before and afters. Thats one of the best things I like about forums because you don't get advertised the 'MAGIC DRUG' You get real, personal stories :D. Anyway I see a lot of people have goal weights, But I don't. I still want to be strong and gain muscle. Is there any chance I can get a 6pack? I'm not really smart at this weight loss stuff, Just know that I have to do it :) (And wan't to :p) Any recommendations for my goal weight? Also do you do 6pack workouts before, or after fat loss? Also, Where I live there is no acces to a gym :/ I walk to and from school Mon-Fri (About 3.8M both ways) But all I have in my house is some dumbbells(Only 7kg each) and an elliptical. If anyone could point me towards some home workouts for fat loss that don't require a lot of equipment? That would be great! And DAMNNN AGAIN!! I never type this much haha.
Well anyways thanks for the support guys!

Aim for 170-180ish and you're pretty good on normal weight.

If I were you, I Would aim for 200 then 180 and an ultimate (life goal :p) of 160. ;) I'm a fan of breaking the goal down into mini-goals, so you can have feelings of accomplishment on the way ;).

You are young enough where your body can be like anybody's body still. Just work at it now; you'll thank yourself later.

Do pushups and sit ups; you can do a ton of ab work without any weights at all, if that's what you really want (you can use a chair and pull your legs toward you etc). And just do some resistance stuff (weights) during your weight loss, otherwise you'll feel really weak after because you'll lose a bit of muscle while losing fat.

Eating right during weight loss is really hard -- you need to eat a lot of the right food to gain muscle even though you won't want to eat a lot at all to lose weight... it's a balancing act :x

Yeah, kiramon said it pretty well for you. He's got some great advice

Although, are you aware you already have a six pack? We all have six packs already, it's just a matter of reducing your body fat % enough to see it. That's all.

Of course, you can enhance them with muscle-building routines, but if you lose enough weight, you'll eventually see them.

Also, don't worry about thinking you're being too verbose in your posts, hehe! You should see some of my own posts in various threads if you want to get an idea of what lengthy typing looks like! :p

Hey dude, I lurk around these forums from time to time..It's nice to see someone near my age here.

From what I can see, your not even that big. I'm 17, 5"11 and weigh 170lbs and have ALOT more fat than you do :(, haha. Anyways, Just wanted to say good luck with your weight loss.

Ok, So I done some exercise for the first time in a while on the elliptical for only half an hour (30min). Im typing this as I have just finished and damn, I'm sweating like a fuckin pedo in a nursery lol :s But I have a question, I did 12.6KM In that half an hour and i'm wondering is it too much, Or to little? Here's a little picture I took after. I'm going to do that everyday and make a little log :) [I Like seeing myself progress :)] [ALSO I did go all out on the workout, I seen somewhere that said something like 'Max effort whilst exercising = Max result' So for some reason without thinking about it my body goes into hardcore mode and doesn't stop :L, It's a good thing I guess? Anyway any feedback is welcome :D]

I push myself a lot when I exercise too, and the results speak for themselves :)

Just be careful to avoid injury and also try to balance your calorie intake with your exercise. Doing too much and not fueling your body enough is bad while, at the same time, doing too little and fueling your body too much isn't going to do anything either.

It's all about balance.

You're doing great though, Astro :) You will see results in time as long as you keep at it!

I Screwed up this week guys! :( BUT only because I have the worst cold ever. I feel like complete crap, Like im getting suffacated and smacked in the head with a baseball bat with a boom box blasting rebecca black at me all day. First few days after the post, I was doing great, Losing about .7 lb a day (Only for a 3 days until the cold hit.) First day I got the cold, I tried to do my workout and it just killed me 18 minutes in. Can anyone tell me if your suppose to do heavy exercise when you can barley get out your bed to get a drink.. :(? Also I'm still feeling like sht but I stated taking some multi-Vitimans as all my family take them and I see to be the only guy getting everything going around :(. Anyway i'm back to my weightloss. I'm going to take new pictures tomorrow and count that as my 'Official' Start of my journey, as this week I just was not up to it. So yeah, Thanks for reading :)

Hang in there, Astro.

Just focus on getting better. A lot of has have been sick lately and your body needs to rest more than anything else.

Keep eating healthy, take vitamins, but I'd limit your physical activity until your body has a chance to knock the sniffles out of your system.

As long as you resume your routine after you're feeling better, you'll be just fine :)

I have to add my two cents worth on this story too.

I agree with everyone who posted and said that it's great you recognize this and start now! I wish I would have had the support when I was your age as well! I am currently around the same weight as you but I have been heavier! I am the same height, maybe an inch taller.

When I was about your age I weighed 250lbs! So don't discourage it could be worse. You seem like you are off to a great start, so I just wanted to acknowledge that and show my support on your journey!

Good luck little brotha -- keep up the good work and you will have a whole life-time of shirtless beach time with friends!
