Squatting at 44

I'm 44 and have been squatting for about 2-3 years (I've been lifting for many more than that but regrettably never took advantage in high school of the huge testosterone advatage teenagers have). I've enjoyed some good growth but would really like to have the option of getting as big as possible (whatever that means for me and without steroids). My question: at 44 is growth going to happen with lower weights and higher reps or higher weights and lower reps? Similarly, is squat to parallel better or deep squatting? I keep reading opposing voices on both issues .... I also want to be sure my knees stay intact for many years ....

i know a guy who started lifting at 48, and is developing good strength and muscle. as you stated, it wouldnt be at the rate that he could have 25 years ago, but he squats a very decent 405 pounds. he doesnt go all the way to parallel (close, but not quite), simply because it is too hard on his knees. if you don't go all the way down, you still reap some good strength benefits, so it should give you a good leg workout.
