Sprite's Progress Thread

Hey all...

Well this is my story so far; I have tried to lose some weight lots of times before, starting diets only to give up. I did have some success about 6 years ago when I lost about 25lb but other than that nothing.

Anyway a few weeks ago I decided to give it another proper good go. I am not following a specific "diet plan" such as weightwatchers, I am just cutting down on portions, cutting out all fats and eating as little sugar as possible. In other words less food and better choice of food.

I have also started excercising, and it is this that I'm hoping will make the big difference this time; in past diets I really haven't done much if any extra excercise. I have been swimming a few times and also been attending aqua-fit classes once a week. (3 so far!) I am intending to start going to the gym this week to make good use of the cardio machines there...

This time I am thinking long-term and pacing myself a bit rather than going OTT and then getting sick of it after a few weeks and giving up. (This has been a downfall in the past.)

Anyway I am into my third week now; I lost 4lb the first week and 2lb the second week. I still have a long way to go but so far I'm quite pleased with my progress, I can really start to feel it now even if I can't see it yet. :D

Hi Sprite,
Welcome to your diary :)

It sounds like you have a good, sensible plan ahead of you and that's the best way to achieve your goals!

I know for me, if I had tried following someone else's food/diet plan I wouldn't have stuck with this either. I have to be able to eat what fits in my life, what my family is eating, etc., just within reason.

and are both nice sites where you can keep track of calories, fitness, etc., I use sparkpeople and it helps me keep on track.

Good luck and welcome to the WLF :)

Hello again sprite! Good luck with your goals, you have a large community cheering you on now. Once again, welcome to the forum.

Hi Sprite - looks like you have s great start in mind. I use Spark too - it's a great tool to help you track everything. And like Mike said - you now a have a cheering squad. Go Sprite Go! :D

Have a great day!!!

Thanks for the encouraging replies and also for the links, I'll be sure to check them out. :)

This is exactly it for me... when you are on the go all the time, eating at different places etc and are picky about food I think it's very hard to follow instructions. (Especially ones where u have to measure or weigh food!) So I am sticking to smaller portions and low-fat healthy food combined with excercise.

This should improve my over-all health as well as my weight, hopefully. :)

Thanks.

Well I cheated today and got on the scales... no loss from last week so far (i have until the weekend) which has worried and therefore motivated me lol. Tomorrow I have a day off work so I am going to go for a longggg walk and then either a swim or to the gym in the afternoon.

I have a dog so there's a good excuse for regular walks. Every little has to help right? I also ordered a pedometer online which calculates steps taken distance walked and calories burnt... just a little gadget to help me see the benefit really. :)

You have a good plan and you are doing awsome and yeps walk your dog as much as possible!! awsome excercise!

Well the day is over... I am in two minds about today. I didn't eat anything "naughty", but I didn't do any real excercise worth mentioning either. (Thanks to a driving lesson and then work...)

I think my biggest problem at the moment is the size of my portions... they are shocking. I did realise tonight that I was full up and leave some on my plate though rather than continue to make myself more uncomfortable.

I think it's because I am not having the sweet, tasty stuff I want so I'm hanging on to the thought of the next meal and when it arrives I try to stuff myself stupid... not doing myself any favours.

I am still planning on getting up and taking a good walk in the morning, so I'm keeping that in mind. :)

Ok now I know I'm posting a lot but I want to document my thoughts and decisions... as much for my own reference as anything. :)

After browsing the forum for a while and munching my way through a couple of bananas (better than the old galaxy chocolate eh!?) I have got myself back into a more positive frame of mind after my enthusiasm started to wane a little earlier...!! I have just purchased a work-out dvd online, I found a Ministry of Sound one that is set to dance music which I love. :) Cant wait for that to arrive.

And I have also decided that in future I'm going to have all meals on a smaller plate. It may sound daft but it should cure my way-too-big portions. :)

Ok now that's definately it... I need to get to bed for that all important sleep.

Night all! :) x

It's a new day and my fruit breakfast was a good start. ;)

Just heading off on my walk now along with mp3 player and doggy. Stepometer hasnt arrived yet :( so I will just have to record how long I was walking for.

I also intend to get 20 situps in later.

I ended up doing 30 situps and taking a brisk, hour-long walk. And I ate right today :D so I feel pretty good about it overall.

The only thing that I'm not happy with is the size of my portions...! Still tending to get overexcited at meal times and eat what is probably a lot more than needed.

I Sprite!! Sorry.. I keep meaning to check in on you then you get lost in the shuffle.

<- great map to help you track your mileage - just put in your address and away you go!

You are doing fantastic! Just watch the portions (my big issue). I found it helps to dish your meals out the dry measuring cups. Gives you a good sense of the amount you're eat. The fam. look at me funny the first time I dug them out but they were shocked at their normal portions.

Hey all.

Well I think I did better with the portions today :) the only large portion was my dinner, and I stopped eating when I realised I'd filled the gap, rather than going on to eat the rest just because it was there. This is what I need to get into a habit of doing (or preferably not cooking so much in the first place!)

However I have been unable to do any situps today... I think I have been a bit over-enthusiastic with doing them, and done a bit too much too fast, and as a result my ribs and tummy hurt something rotten lol, so no excercises today. Oops. :D

So I will slow down with the situps, but I think I should be able to go for a good walk without feeling too uncomfortable, so I aim to do that tomorrow.

I used to cook way too much too. But since I've cut down on my eating so has the rest of the fam. (voluntarily:eek: ) so I just cook our 3 servings and that's it. No seconds!! Nobody has complained so I'm guessing they are liking the result in the belt area too.

No reason to push yourself beyond what's comfortable. You're just starting out and while it is tempting to test your limits - the body has to get used to the new amount of activity. Taking a walk tomorrow sounds like a great idea - have fun!!

Ooooh, no seconds. Not exactly music to my ears lol. :( Still... gotta be done I guess! I find cooking enjoyable and it's something I do for pleasure which doesn't help.

It's starting to get pretty cold here but as long as I keep moving at a good pace I find walking ok, even in a tshirt. I am not taking the dog as I found she's a bit of a lightweight... cant take it. I need a new walking partner who isn't going to demand to be carried half way. :D

Well...! :D

Today has been alright. My excercise DVD arrived and I like it. Although on the dancing bit some of the moves are a bit complicated... I guess I'll pick them up after I do it a bit. The "high energy" bit seems a bit less complicated, with moves I can mirror easily enough leaving me to concentrate on working hard. Lol the fit women on there are leaping around all over the place... they should be wobbling a bit but there are no flabby bits to be seen anywhere.

Lol anyway... I'm not feeling my best today, I have given it a quick go to get a feel for it, but I am looking forward to being able to put 100% into it. :)

Hope everyone is doing well and having a good weekend. :)
