Spine injury needs help getting program

Hello I have a mess of injuries, cervical fusion at c6-7, bilateral thoracic outlet, bilateral ulnar nerve injury, post L4 compression fracture with bulging discs and neuropathy down both legs primarily left. That's the easy part. The docs are oh do this and that including yoga. I can't put any weight on my arms/hands and have a balance issue because of the neuropathy down the left leg. Unfortunately because of meds, Lyrica the biggest, i have gained 20 lbs. I weigh the most I have ever weighed (although still small for my size). If I was toned it wouldnt be a problem but I don't know what to do to tone? Doc says if it hurts don't do it, except it always hurts. Any suggestions would be great. When I go to PT they don't consider the whole body just one part and that is not helping the overall problem. Thank you, Debby

Hi Debby, I'm in a similar situation, except I have 2 herniated discs and recovering from a third herniated disc. When I ask about a workout plan everyone seems to avoid giving me a straight answer. It's as if noone wants to give a definite answer. It is so frustrating because I love to eat but I can't workout so I gained quite a bit of weight and it really shows. Does anyone know if I can never workout again? Sorry so dramatic...

Water aerobics, water jogging, aqua therapy. These all can be very good workouts if you really put something into them.

How long ago was your surgery? It'll take a few months before your comfortable enough to do any kind of strenuous activity, never mind a training session. Aqua therapy may be a good way to start if your doc OKs it.

Check out my avatar. That's my back. T12-L2 fusion after a trauma accident. It took a solid 3 months before I started therapy and I would always need a full day off the next day. However, once I started going it got easier as my muscle tone started coming back. Starting over sucks. Push thru.

water based exercises are going to be better for your situation as they can help relive the pressure on your body wile still giving you a goo workout

Hope This Helped
