Sore

Recently, I worked out back to back days. Not really a big deal, but the first day I did an intense free weights lift with some sit ups and push ups. I pushed myself a little bit. The next morning, I woke up and did a light cardio workout on the eliptical, just holding my target HR for 25 mins. Day 3 I decided to take it easy cause I am pretty sore. My question is this, is it better to not push yourself and be a little more consistant and not sore for day 3, so you can possibly work out again, or is it better for your body to be pushed once in a while, so it has that day off?

For me, I just try to really listen to my body. "Active recovery" as I've seen it called on here before, has been praised. If you are deeply sore, you obviously don't want to push it or you will welcome injury. Are you on a full-body or split routine? That surely has a lot to do with it, full body allows more frequent teardown because you are doing a full spread of muscle work, as opposed to some splits where you might really, really fatigue the muscles...

In general, I don't think its bad to workout if you're a little sore. Just make sure to give yourself 1 or 2 days in the week where you have complete rest, and no cardio or weights...

Very true. The body recovers and improves during the rest period and so resting is sometimes more important than the exercise portion of a routine.
