Sore ankles

Hi

I'm a rather large guy (190lb), and have lately been trying to get into frequent jogging to get back into shape. However, i find that after only a few minutes of jogging, my ankles start to really hurt. I guess it's from a previous lack of fitness, and also the fact that I'm carrying more weight. How can this be reduced ? Should i look into strengthening to legs and ankles before undertaking a running routine ? Does it have a lot to do with shoes ? Becuase the shoes i have aren't specifically running shoes. Is there something i should be specifically doing to them right before jogging ?

Any help would be appreciated.

First, GET RUNNNING SHOES... Second, you can do a warm up for your joints before exercise. Take your shoes off and sit in a chair. Point your leg and toes out and do circles with your foot while keeping your legs straight. Then reverse direction after you start feeling your muscles tighten. Do this everyday, and also every morning when you wake up. You will soon start feeling better. Get a book called SUPER JOINTS by Pavel Tsatsoulin, it will do wonders. If you dont feel improvement within a couple weeks, see a doc.
ALSO, I'm 190lbs and I just got out of special forces, the weight didn't hold me back. I still run a pretty fast 6mi. Keep it up !! and work into running easily. Another excellent book is "Galloways book on running".
