I believe that you can't know where you're going (or how to get there!) until you know where you've been.

I started out by taking a few days to journal. Track every single food and drink you put in your mouth. Figure out how many calories you are really taking in, and figure out how many calories you actually need.

LOL! Or the rule of thumb is, 15 calories per pound that you weigh right now.

Thank you dariqueen

I will definately take your advice. I know it's not going to be a speedy process. I know it will take time, I just want to find something that works. My problem is, if I don't see results, I will lose determination. I will stick to something if it's working, I just have no idea where to start, but I definately will start that food journal. I think it will help me keep track of what I should or shouldn't eat.

I think the first thing anyone should do is research and plenty of it.

That means learning a lot about yourself (thus the food journaling), your body, various approaches to weight loss, nutrition, etc., etc., etc.

It also means learning to separate the popularly-held "truisms" from fact. It means building a strategy that works for you based on your needs, abilities, etc.

So, although it's a drag and you undoubtedly want to get started doing something right away, it'll probably pay to do your homework.

Of course, you can take my advice with a grain of salt--I'm relatively new to this whole thing myself.

YOu have a good theory and I will definately use it. I agree that I need to know my body before starting. If I know myself then I will know what will work and what wont. Thanks alot for your input.

Start off slow! Don't give up everything at once, then you will link Diet as a burdon rather than joy and benefit. Perhaps you drink alot of soda or gotta have 3 cups of coffee daily or maybe you love those midnight snacks, cut it in half! As far as exercise, what I did to start was go outside! I just never realized how much time I spent inside. Take your kid and stroll him or her, or just tend to your lawn. Start off slow and add a little more as time progresses, Goals are great but breaking up goals into smaller goals helps you see results fast. rather than waiting just for the big one. I weigh every two days, rather than once a week or twice a month or whatever, I guess I just like to see things NOW even if it is small achievements! Goodluck

First thing I'd do is smack your husband for not being supportive enough. My wife tells me that's a great place to start, regardless of what's going on ;)

Seriously, however, I'd ask him for his help, and try to find a way to incorporate in a good cardiovascular regimen into your daily routine. Find time to go out and walk 30-45 minutes per day at a good rate at least. Also - take an honest assessment of the food that you're eating. We all know what "crap" food is. Just don't eat it :)

Make sure you're properly hydrated, get a good regimen of natural and healthy foods going through your system, and keep up the exercise. I'm sure that will work wonders for you.

Thank you for your input. It seems like everybody is saying the same thing. Must be a reason for that. I know if I cut out a lot of my "Junk" food, I would lose weight.
