Some questions about BMR

Alright, so BMR is how many calories I'd burn if I did nothing but lay in bed all day without moving, correct?

I'm 6"2 177lbs so my BMR is 1,978.

I'm confused about some of these calculator websites.
For example, watching a 3 hour movie burns 242 calories it says.
So do those count as extra calories that I burn each day ADDED TO my BMI?

So for example (unrealistic of course) If I slept 21 hours and then watch a 3 hour movie I would burn 1,978 + 242 that day? My outtake would be 2,220?

no its not like that. but often watching a movie or a sports event can increase your heartrate from excitement, and actually cause you to burn more calories than if you had been sitting on the couch doing nothing. I think the number they give for watching the movie, is the amount you burn in that period of time due to BMR with a bit added in for increased heart rate from the movie. I find numbers like that to be very trivial in one's goals.

Just take your BMR and times it by your activity level. I think it goes something like:

brmx1.1 = inactive
bmrx1.2 = moving around a bit during day
bmrx1.3 = active job, or work out a bit
brmx1.4 = very active job, or work out a lot
bmrx1.5 = highly active most of the day every day

but that's just a rough estimate, and just from memory.

the above is correct. BMR = calories needed if you are immobile 24/7. i.e. in a coma

so you need BMR x Activity level to get a rough estimate of your caloric needs.
