Some help

HI everyone i am an exercise virgin and just joined a gym and not sure where to start.
I did have like a fitness test in my induction but i am still unsure what i need to be doing and what else my gym has to offer and what exercise classes would really suit me.

Does anyone else have this problem with their gym?
Also does anyone gym offer them help with diet and healthy eating plans??? I am paying a fair bit of money for my gym.... i dont know if i should say something or not?:)

It can be difficult when you're just starting. Personally, I began reading a lot and tested out different exercises, routines, days, times, everything until I became comfortable enough with it to do it myself, which actually took a long time. There are loads of resources at your local bookstore, some better than others. Forums like this are also great for specific information that isn't addressed in most general resources.

Once you've defined your goals you can likely find a couple of routines to start using (not to mention learning different exercises). From there, you can see what works, what doesn't, etc. It takes time, but each time you go you'll have learned something new. I still tweak and test out new things.

As far as classes and eating plans, I'd just ask them. They should be happy to discuss the classes with you, though I doubt there are any eating plans without signing up with a personal trainer.

Anyhow, my two cents. Best of luck to you.

Hi subi - first things first, congratulations on taking the plunge and joining a gym!

Different gyms will offer you different levels of assistance, most of which are free (well, included in the membership) but, some of which are extras. What did your induction entail exactly? I would expect at the very least for them to help you with a training programme based on what you hope to achieve.

As for the classes, I'm sure they would be happy to offer advice if you ask them. Most important thing is to pick classes you think you'll enjoy.

Nutrition is not something I would expect your gym to advise you on. As DEF said, this is the kind of service you would get from a personal trainer (which would cost extra, assuming your gym has them). The easiest alternative is to research it yourself. This website is an excellent place to start - you'll be amazed at the information crammed into these pages :)

Best of luck
