Greetings!
I am a high school English teacher in Southern California. From college up until 2007- I was a yo-yo dieter and invested in everything from the fat blocker pills to multiple rounds in Weight Watchers. In 2007, I had just hit the bottom. I was 280 pounds, was a white food/ sugar addict, fast food junkie and had been paying for gym memberships for years without ever setting foot into the place. I hated how I looked in pictures and I was just done.
I began, on a 24 hour basis, to live differently. It was a huge struggle to switch from what I was eating to what I'm eating now. It was a slow, slow process and sometimes I plateaued and sometimes I just plowed through. As of today, two plus years--I'm at around 194 or so. I've been exercising at least 4 or 5 days a week and I've been seeing a nutritionalist. It was so enligtening to see her, she helped me understand the value of protein and the value of metabolic testing. A good therapist, a good exercise program and a great support system have helped as well.
It's a new year. I turn 35 this year. It's a big year and I've got some definite goals. My partner and I are trying to have a child. I'd like to reach the hundred pound mark at 180 and I'd like to run a 5k. I find inspiration in the Biggest Loser but I know that it's sooooooo not real life and research has shown that a majority of them put their weight back on as they didnt get the tools that they needed for long term success.
Anyways- my goals are as follows:
1.) exercise 4 to 5 days a week
2.) keep within my calories
3) keep making healthy choices and choose fresh over processed
4) keep drinking more water
5) remember that its about how I feel rather than the numbers.
It's progress and not perfection.
I look forward to sharing this with you all.
