So what should I do with my bodyfat?

I finnally got a digital body fat caliper. I ordered it off bodybuilding.com.

After tons of practice (I was getting high as 36% and as low as 11%) I finnally got 18.6% pretty consistent, which feels accurate to me.

The bodyfat caliper used the 3 point method. I got

July 15th
Bodyfat %: 18.9%
Chest: 17
Abs: 34
Thigh: 19
Weight: 187.4

So what does this mean for me? I can't bulk obviously because my bodyfat is high....but I can't cut either because if I get any smaller I'm asking for a death sentence on the football field. (The next smallest linemen is 220).

But I know that if I dropped 10 pounds (which would put me around 14-15%) I would be alot faster and quicker.

What should I do? Also I probably will lose fat anyhow with training camp coming up (20+ steep hills a day), 2-a-days and practices.

I would cut during the off-season and clean bulk while on. But it sort of seems like you don't have an off-season, or a choice in the matter while you're a lineman.

Switch positions and get down to 13% body fat? Or just clean bulk all the way through football season, if you can handle it, followed by cuting as much fat as you can in the off while leaving a month and a half or so to eat at maintenance for two weeks, bulk for a full month, and then repeat for next season??

Actually there won't be a last season because this is my last year of football ever in my life. I'm 90% sure I'm not playing in college.

I wish I had one more offseason though...I didnt' realize I loved football so much until I got injured for the season in my junior year. It was torture seeing everyone practice and being stuck on the sideline with a messed up ankle.

I think what would make me a better athlete is to be quicker. I'm seriously thinking about cutting and looking at another position. Now that I have a caliper; measuring my progress will be so much more accurate; and the fact that I know for sure I'm 18.6% bodyfat motivates me to get going you know!! I also know that I'm a good cutter. I retain strength while cutting pretty good. I once cut down from 190 to 175 and gained strength.

edit: If I cut 10 pounds (realistic) I will be 14-15% bodyfat. If I cut 20 pounds (kinda unrealistic might lose muscle) I will be 9-10% bodyfat.

I would definitely go for switching positions and getting as lean as is reasonably possible before your last season starts. But that's just me. :)

I'm like Brett Favre when it comes to deciding what to do with my weight lol

Lets do a little chart...

Losing fat:

Pros- Faster, Quicker, Jump higher which I am surprised that I'm already good at..., Look better, (faster can also mean time on special teams, that would guarntee me to get at least on the field for my final time in football)

Cons- Smaller (which could mean getting destroyed easier...)

But thats it really; alot more pros then cons. I'm leaning towards cutting. Let me get a few more opinions though...I am however gonna start today eating -500 below my maintenance calories (which now is far more accurate since I know my bodyfat)

How tall are you...

Look at strahan, losing that weight will make you better on the defensive end of the ball.

6'0. Being 6'0 in the 180's is pretty small weight wise for my height.

Could always carb cycle and lose fat while gaining LBM

Gaining muscle is not gonna happen with training camp in 2 weeks.

I'm leaning towards cutting...like 70% now. I have already ate -500 below my maintenance today.
