SO many choices

Hey everyone I am writing today because I can't figure out what to do here. I have been researching dieting and such and I am overwhelmed by the loads of information out there. It seems like it all contradicts itself though, some info says things such as low carb are great, some info says that low carb is bad.

I'm currently 5'8, 179 and I'm looking to lose 10-15 pounds in about a month-month 1/2. I want to know what my best option is for this with minimal loss of muscle. Currently I wont be able to get to a gym for another 2-3 weeks so as far as exercise goes I can only really run and do body exercises such as push ups, crunches, ect.

Thank you very much for any input.

1. Diet - Concentrate on getting protein, then carbs, then fats. Starting with a 40/30/30 ratio (% of calories) and adjusting as you need to.

2. Sleep - Get as much as you can.

3. NEAT - Non-exercise Activity Thermogenesis, which is fancy scientific speak for getting off your butt and moving around more (outside of your workouts).

4. Resistance Training - To help convince your body to keep that muscle, a good full body workout 3x a week might be a place to start. Augment with a session of cardio if you miss it. Any sort of resistance source will do - your body doesn't know the difference. Only thing is you'll need some kind of device for your upper back exercises - like a pull-up bar.

Hope this helps for a start.

Stingo has great advice, but it can be even simpler than that. To lose weight you need to create a calorie deficit -- in other words, eat less than you burn off. If you cut 500 calories out of your current diet (preferably junk food) and increase your physical activity to burn 500 calories a day you'll lose 2 pounds a week (3,500 calories in a pound of fat). Yes, it is that easy. :)

Dailyplate.com has an outstanding database of foods and activities that can help you see where you could cut 500 cals and burn 500. If 500 is too much, you can go 250 in each direction to drop a pound a week.

Really hope that helps. Good luck!

I am new here too, and very new to fitness in general, so you may want to keep that in mind, but I was able to lose ten pounds in about a month by totally cutting out pop and focusing on drinking lots of water.

I don't know how typical that is, but that really helped kickstart my quest to drop a few pounds.

Best of luck with your efforts. :)

play around with multiple diets, personally for me when I am contest prep I respond best to a high fats (good fats), moderate carb, and high protein... everyone is different however.

email me and I will personally help you out with more information: texaspt@beachbodycoach.com

The advice isn't mine really - Leigh Peele is the main source of the advice listed.

I'd also add hydration as something else to keep an eye on.
