Slow Weight Loss on VLCD - Help!

Hi everyone,

I'm Beth, I'm 25 and I'm currently on a meal-replacement VLCD and I'm aiming to lose around 7 stone (to give you an idea as to my current weight). I started on 2nd Jan 2017 and my weight loss weekly so far looks as follows:

Loss for week 1: 7.4lbs
Loss for week 2: 4.2lbs
Loss for week 3: 2.8lbs
Loss for week 4: 1.6lbs
Loss for week 5: 1.8lbs

Although 18lbs in 5 weeks is great, it's a lot less than i'd expect to see from a VLCD. I'm only consuming 600 kcal a day (total) through 3 meal replacement packs, drinking water and occasionally a Coke Zero (as 'allowed' by the diet) but my weight seems to be moving really slowly.

Previously on VLCDs i've lost around 3-4lbs a week, which is what is often what is quoted as 'normal' on a VLCD. It's a more extreme diet to adopt which restricts me socially and makes me more emotional (from not being able to emotionally eat) and with losses like this it makes me consider packing it in and doing a more traditional diet.

I'm not expecting to match the first week's loss (as i know this is water weight as well as actual fat) but with losing around 2lbs a week, I feel I could do the same on something less restrictive.

Has anyone else had this experience and come out of the lull with a higher loss? Is there anything i'm doing 'wrong'?

Please give any help or advice you can, as it's really bringing me down.

Hi Marc, usually on a VLCD you can lose on average a stone a month (14lbs).

I posted this as I am not losing the usual amount (especially compared to when I have done a VLCD before) and wanted to hear others' experience and understand if this is normal, or if there is something I am doing wrong.

I'm afraid I'm not the best person to advise on whether it is effective as right now I'm not finding it so! :(

Don't panic Beth, you're loosing weight at a very healthy pace.

1. The faster you lose the weight, the easier it is to gain it all back as soon as you starting consuming a normal diet again. I lost 20Ilbs one month and gained 40 the next. Since your starting to average around 1-2 pounds of weight loss per week, you will have a much easier time to keep that weight off.

2. Start your day off with a cup of black coffee or tea. This will increase your metabolism without you having to do much. Drink on an empty stomach though to incorporate the properties of weight loss. If you drink with a meal, it still has a lot of vital health properties, and should be done just about every morning.

3. Drinking green tea before bed will also boost your metabolism and help you receive better quality sleep, which in turn will only benefit your weight loss goals.

I hope this helped! -Devaughn Debelak
