slow&stiff?

When i work out, i like to go all out. I mean, when i can't get the weight up anymore, i continue and squeeze the last bit of strength out.
Now, a friend told me that this way, you get stiff and slow muscles. Could that be true?

no...theres no reason to hold onto a weight that you cant do anymore, you might get injured that way. If you cant do 1 more rep you have gone to failure and thats plenty enough to get your muscles growing

I do only excercises with my own bodyweight so i don't think i can get hurt this way. And the reason i do it like this is because i like it. I can let out some of the raw animal power that has no place in daily life.
But if it'll make me stiff and slow, i'll probably stop doing it. So i'd like to know. Anybody?

It might leave you a little sore the next day, but in the long run it will only make you stronger, healthier and more flexable if you are doing the movements correctly.

Thanks for the reassurance!
