Slow and Steady

Okay, it's been a while since I posted here. I made the commitment to lose weight in May. It's been really hard to reprogram my eating habits and I was either losing very slowly or sometimes I gained a few pounds back because of relapses in behavior.

Finally, I have a system that is working for me, and realistic goals. I'm working on losing 1 pound a week by eating 1200-1350 calories a day. I'm finally steadily losing weight rather than bouncing back and forth. The hardest things for me was reigning in was my addiction to sweets (I have a HUGE sweet tooth) and learning to drink lots of water.

I reward myself semi-daily with the occassional diet snow cone. If I feel I've been a really good girl, I'll get the non-diet version (SUGAR RUSH). It beats Frappacinos. :)

One day a week, I give myself a break. This doesn't mean I go hog wild and binge, but I'll indulge myself with food I normally wouldn't eat (ex- an ice cream cone/sundae, a dinner at a favorite restaurant, etc...). I keep still try to keep the calories at 1600, though.

Recently, I've taken up walking a mile or two serveral days a week. This is really good for me as I work all the time on computers so I get *no* regular exercise (minus my shopping expeditions--something I look forward to more as I near my goal--LOL).

It's slow and steady for me. I may not reach my goal weight until January, but--hey--I'll be able to keep it off for years and not get into a frusterated tissy about reaching weekly goals (1 pound a week is easy for me now).

Each week, I have something to be proud of. Each month, I'll feel like a new person. Losing weight can be fun! :D

These sound like great goals. And you already seem like you know what to do, and are on the right track! Good for you!!!! :D

Impish glad you started posting it really seems to help keep track of everything and vent. Yea, we need to find the thing that works for us. I'm like you and sugar is err ah was a major food group. A snow cone a substitute for a frapp hummm I don't know. I keep saying I'm going to go get a frapp as a treat but then I pull up the calories..........

Thanks, PaperMoon & Hillbillylee-

Frozen sweets rock! Fraps have been a big weakness of mine for a long time... You have the cold and the sweet and the caffiene rush all in one tasty package.

They are only for my weekly "reward" day now (if at all). The tall-sized Mochas aren't too bad if you take off the whipped cream - 220 calories. The light ones are only 150 calories, but I think they have a funny aftertaste--and if I'm going to have a Frapaccino it has to be the real deal.

When I was starting to reprogram myself, I was weak and got them all the time at Safeway, but I started taking in my own can of fat-free whipped cream (about 20 calories). The Starbucks version is around 100 extra calories and left a waxy film on the roof of my mouth so I was pleasantly surprised they Starbucks servers didn't look at me like an alien when I asked them to use mine instead.

But now I am hooked on snow cones. They come in so many awesome flavors and are fat-free. I like the shaved Hawiian ices better than the regular chunky ices. Egg custard flavor rocks!

They only prob is it's hard to get a exact calorie count. It varies depending where you look on the internet and how syrup-happy your cashier is. I know it's not terrible since they are mostly ice, but it can be quite a bit of sugar--which is why I go with the diets (I guestimated are 100-200 cals--depending on size).

I also like to make my own smoothies by filling my blender with frozen fruit, soy milk, and a couple spoonfuls of honey, but that gets very messy. :)

I tried your smoothie you left on the recipe section. Normally I cant stand soy milk but in a smoothie it wasn't bad. The only thing i left out was the honey and replaced it with a little splenda. To get more exact on the snow cones you would have to buy the syrup at the grocery store and measure it out yourself. On the frapps, I tried the sugar free ones and I think i will should hold out for the real ones when i have enough room on my calories or on a cheat day........

there are a bunch of sugar free syrups available that come in all sorts of delicious flavors... you can either use them in coffee, or just mix with club soda for your own flavored sodas, or even make your own shaved ice... Best place I've found lately to find them is the specialty food section (near the pots) in Marshalls/TJ Maxx or Home Goods... they don't have that sugar free aftertaste either...
