SLAP Tear and Bicep re-attachement

Hi Guys,

I play rugby and due to a few injuries on my shoulder, a surgeon reccomend I have key hole surgery. He performed the above operation in August 08, after spending nearly 6 months rehabbing I was able to play again.

One of the major problems I have had since the operation is my muscle balance. I am right handed, had the operation on my right shoulder but my right tricep, pec and deltoids are visable smaller than my left. Although my strength is similar, I feel this is due to being right handed.

I was wondering if any one could reccomend exercises which could help balance me out.

Thanks

Andy

The most important thing is to not "favor" one side when doing exercises. Try and stay away from machines and use mostly all free weights so you can make sure you are using your stabilizer muscles to generate the force and not just the dominate side. Do not do more reps on the "weaker" side either. Over time, completing most of your exercises with free weights will dramatically help the imbalance. Be aware of your body and how much you are using one side even in daily activities. Are you using free weights now?

Just so you know, it is normal for one side to be stronger and appear bigger than the other, but it is something that can be fixed with time and correct form! Let me know if you have more questions.

I am using free weights, I only use dumbbells for all off my upper body sessions.

I do a lot of shoulder rehab exercises which my right shoulder fatigues alot quicker but i stick to the same weights/ reps on each side. Any shoulder exercises you would reccomend?

Thanks
