Skinny kid needs help

Hi my name is Collin I'm 17 6'1 and 160 lbs

I have been trying to gain some muscle in my arms because I see my friends with bigger arms and I look at my arms and they look like girls arms.

I have been doing mostly curls with a 20 lb dumbell and pushups I do about 15 curls and 15 pushups rest a minute or two then do as much as I can and for the last week I've been doing dumbbell kick backs I guess they're called then take it easy for a couple days after. I've been doing it for 3 weeks now and I'm not seeing anything.

I know I can't expect to be hercules in 3 weeks but I think if I used more weight I would get quicker results. I don't wanna join a gym so I thought some heavier dumbells would be nice.

I see a bunch of dumbell weight sets but what's good for starting out? I don't have a lot of money.

Like you said, you can't expect to be hercules in three weeks, but you definately cant expect to be hercules doing curls and kickbacks. You need to add these exercises into your routine...bench press, squat, deadlift, row, military press, pull-ups. www.exrx.net has videos of all these exercises if you don't know how do do some of them.

There are tons of routines, but Bill STarr's 5x5 would be an excellent routine for you to start with to add strength and size.

Thanks for the links I forgot to add that I'm going to make a simple portable pull up bar once I get some money for wood.

I should get a pair of dumbells and a barbell but what how much weight do I need to start out?

personal preference...do what you think you can do...10 rep range is good for size an strength..but don't go to the squat and think you can do 200 lbs and try it, cuz chances are you can't...i'd start at 100ish and move up from there, if it's to easy try to throw on 20 more lbs, etc.

100lbs? he should start at 50lbs and work his way up from there

I'm doing 45kg at the moment (=100lbs) and when i started i could barely do 3*10 of 80 lbs

Depends on what exercise obviously, but he weighs 160 i'd hope he could bench, squat, and deadlift more than 50 beginner or not
