six pack

I'm 15 and I'm 5'10'' and weigh 144lbs. I started working out when I was 13 but I just started lifting weights now. Just recently I started working my abs more and I need to know if it looks like I will get a six pack in a little more time or if I'm doomed to have a 4 pack. I know genetics play an important role, but my dad is pretty overweight so I'm lucky I got my moms genes. I also do HIIT and cardio to get rid of the layer of fat that I have. Also on an off topic question is 29lbs decent curling weight for a kid my age? I'm not talking about concentration curls, I'm talking about the ones where you let your arm hang then lift them up.

dont bother with curls exercises like squats deadlifts benchpress will all build your arms..and also your abs to do compound exercises you have to use your abs to hold the weight in position

How exactly will squats build your arms?

actually, bench press is the only one of those exercises that works the biceps, and its only a minor stabilizer. I think curls are pretty much a standard in all routines to work the biceps.

Lifting

Yeah for me the curls have gotten me the greatest result so far for my biceps. I'm not really big on benching and stuff, I just use free weights with dumbbells most the time cuz I don't have the equipment for barbells. I can't go to the gym either because I can't drive yet and there is no way my parents would drive me to the gym 3 days a week. Eh anyway, i'm not looking to bulk up really I just don't want to have a scrawny body.

I think what buzz meant was "build a good solid foundation with the exercises that stress the major muscle groups". Those would be benching, squats, and deadlifts. But if you want bigger arms, I would do the curls (benching is always great, cause it's cool to brag about!)

Yeah I agree with the benching part being cool, I really have no idea how much I can bench but my friend always bugs me about it. Maybe one of these days I'll head over to the gym to show him who's boss:cool: He thinks hes stronger than me but I doubt it, he uses a bowflex lol

actually the bench works the tricep not the bicep you push not pull..but as far as compounds are cocerned if you do a chin using bodyweight and you are 100k that would put your bicep under more load than doing a curl with 40k
powerlifters never do curls and look at there arms
YUO DONT DO ISOLATION MOVEMENTS IN THE REAL WORLD SO WHY TRAIN THAT WAY.
and i meant squats work the abs.

first of all http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/BBBenchPress.html

says there that bicep is a dynamic stablizer.

im not arguing your logic about focusing on big compound lifts at all. I completely agree. But to say, why train something a certain way because you dont do it in real life, thats assuming our only goals in weight training is to better improve everyday activities. While this is true, its only partially true. maybe some people want behemoth sized arms. If thats what they wants, its not fair for us to judge

its only a stabaliser
the synegistec musles are
Pectoralis Major, Clavicular
Deltoid, Anterior
Triceps Brachii

which only further goes to prove my point: the need to isolate the bicep. since nothing in the list that you mentioned focuses on the bicep...squats deadlifts benchpress do NOT build your bicep

deadlifts do but i meant compounds in general like chins, dips, clean and jerks, pulldowns, bent over rows, all work the arms with more weight than curls..as i said before look at powerlifters, olympic lifters, they never do isos im not saying dont do them i just think its a bit of a waste of energy when you could be focusing on lifting more weight with the big compounds and spending less time in the gym.

gotcha, just misunderstood what you were saying. rows and chins do a great job of shredding the biceps.

didnt mean to sound argumentative bro. just wanted to make sure people werent getting wrong info.

no probs mate it would be boring if we all agreed:D
