it only does it, by physics, magic or whatever else, if diet is in check. eat bad and run means you're wasting your time. eat more than you need and you will still add weight, eat less and you risk starvation mode. plus cardio will eat into muscle, reducing the six pack you hope to reveal
and besides, going out for a run burns kcalories up until you stop and eat a little, resistance training increases metabolism over a 24-48 hour period, burning more kcalories. cardio is nothing without a greater idea of overall training and a spot on diet
