Sit ups and crunches...

i'm not sure but i you are overweight and have fat covering your abs then you won't notice them beacuse he fat is covering them so really you still have to do lots of cardio anyway x becky

Fat doesn't turn into muscle. You have to burn off fat by cutting calories, eating properly, and by exercise. Sit ups and crunches will strengthen the muscles under the fat, but as Becky said - you wouldn't be able to see them under fat. People use them to perfect and define their mid-sections - in pursuit of the perfect abs! However, you have to have a very low body fat percentage to really show them off.

Fat cannot turn into muslce no more than your heart can turn into your liver, they are two different anatomical beings made up of two different types of tissues.

That being said, abdominal exercises are good for developing the abdominal muscles, but do nothing for burning the fat off of them no more than doing bicep curls burns fat off of your biceps, etc. The muscles are underneath the fat, so in order for the muscle to show well (6 pack), you must get the fat off from on top of them - diet and exercise.

As above.. BUT muscle burns fat. So while you are gaining muscle it is helping to burn the fat around it

Lean muscle mass raises your metabolic rate slightly as muscle must burn more calories to maintain itself. Muscle does not burn the fat around itself, it simply uses more calories as a whole, which can contribute to reduced body fat in general.
