Single Leg Squats

At the advice of Alwynn Cosgrove, I gave single leg squats a try in my last leg workout. My leg days typically consist of: Deadlifts, Dynamic Lunges, Step-ups with various sets/reps, i finish up with decline leg raises for the core.

I haven't squatted in a while, and I was starting to feel the urge to add them back into my routine. Being in a hotel room, and lacking the equipment to do a proper squat or deadlift, I tried some single leggers... I really felt like i got a much better workout, especially in my glutes and hamstrings, from single leg squats.

Does anyone have some insight as to wether single leg squats are inferior/superior to standard squats?

edit: i'm thinking of supersetting singles with deadlifts, and not doing any "standard" squats...

Unilateral work is great, but I would still want to have some standard squatting for a complete workout. Of course, you can switch it up, like do unilat on leg day 1 and double on day 2.

But your routine already has a lot of unilateral stuff, so maybe you can keep the standard squats and trade in the step-ups or lunges with...what are you doing, pistols, or bulgarian squats?

Pistols, minus the whole balancing act. I do it off the side of a chair of bench, instead of putting my dead leg straight in front of me.

I find them a lot more difficult than split-squats...

Ah, well I personally would keep standard squats in there, but if you want to switch em out for a while, there shouldn't really be a problem. Do you plan to return to regular squats?

yeah, i'm not going to quit doing squats for ever... but i wanted to know if there was a problem with switching to single legs for a bit...
