shoulder twinge

Resumed lifting a few years ago, have taken some breaks but have been working out steady for4 months. I am 62. I have increase weights gradually (5 lbs) when I reach 12 reps. Recently I started feeling a twinge in my left shoulder, a little discomfort. This is happening with a seated over-head press and seated mid-press (half way between press and bench). Any advice?

Sorry, but it's really impossible to give an accurate diagnosis online... you would be best off to see a physical therapist, chiropractor, or your physician. Otherwise you may end up with some bad advice that could make the issue worse.

I've overcome several past shoulder injuries (torn rotator, AC joint osteolysis) and the subsequent nagging pain that followed by doing the following:

-Decreasing heavy pressing work for a while and replacing with light band work
-Stretching a lot more
-Supplementing with triple strength glucosamine & chondrointin
-Supplementing with fish oil

If none of that works for you, it's probably time to see an orthopedic specialist.

Bit of an old thread but just in case you still have the problem it sounds like a tendon inflammation to me, if it comes on when lifting overhead then it's usually the tendon being pinched. Ibroprofen, rest and ice will help
