shoulder injury

I was trying to be a good son-in-law Saturday and ended up hurting my shoulder. It was raining and I was carrying a bag of dog food in one hand and a bag of groceries in the other. I stepped onto the wet, wood front steps and my legs went out from under me (to the front). I landed on my butt and my right forearm. My right shoulder hurts now. I don't think its bad but here is what I've found out:

I can do bench press, but only with light weight on my machine. It's more comfortable when my hands are perpendicular with the ground. It hurts more when they are paralell with the ground. I can do lat pulldowns, seated pulley rows, barbell curls and tricep pushdowns without pain. I can raise my arm up in front of me like I'm doing a front shoulder raise and rotate it in a full circle. It is a little sore when i get to the top but not really painful.

Anyway, just wanted to get some input from those in the know. Do you think it's OK? I'm planning on staying with light weights for chest and eliminating shoulder raises until I'm more confident that it won't cause pain. Thanks, Greg

Not sure maybe a slight sprain.

Ive had it a few times before it kind of feels near the joint capsule right, should get better in a few days or so. Id personally limit myself to pain free movements where possible.

I appreciate it. I've had almost the same feeling when I used to bench heavy. I'll take it really light for a week or so and go from there. Thanks again, Greg

Take it easy with all your exercises and ice afterwards, as a precaution. Sometimes when you fall on your outstretched arm you can tear your rotator cuff. Better to be really safe and go easy until you know how it is going to respond. Avoid any exercise or movement that causes pain. If it doesn't improve after these modifications, you might need to get it checked out by a professional.
