Shoulder Impingement

I have searched through the site and could not find much information on it. I wanted to hear from my fellow gym rats.

I am still battling my Shoulder Impingement, even after 2 months. For the last 2 months, I have not lifted a single DB. Have been going to a physio regularly, but, I am not really happy with the recovery.
There is improvement but it is extremely slow.

Have others suffered from it? How long does it usually take them? Any suggestions? What do you think caused it to you?

Please suggest I am losing my patience after 2 months.

It took me about 6 weeks before I was rid of the pain, I continue to do rotator cuff exercises and now my shoulders feel bulletproof.. Behind the neck pressing and all ( :p to evo)

Go check out Eric Cressey's site..

He has a ton of info on shoulder problems and you can email him with questions too. He is a great guy and should be able to help you out a lot. I had some shoulder issues a while back and he helped me out immensely.

While searching the site I learned that you have had this pleasure.
Would you mind sharing what did you do (and didnt) to get rid of it.
Also did you find out what caused it?

My cause was too much pressing, and an abnormally large anterior deltoid.. Which was too strong compared to the cuff.. I did external rotation with cables or a band and it helped a ton. I don't like the lying with the db way, just didn't feel the burn like the cable or the band.. I'll see if I can find a pic.

EDIT** http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Infraspinatus/CBExternalRotation.html there ya go, I don't sit while doing them though. The cable or band should be exactly at elbow level.

 :D

I'm venturing into a bit of BTN pressing stuff mainly for higher reps and eventually jerks when I get the rack back. But I will never touch upright rows.

I'm with Jenn. Go to Cressey's site. I'm not a physio but after 8 weeks you should be at least doing light db lifting and RC rehab stuff to get blood flowing to the area. Inactivity can lead to lesions and those are absolutely no fun at all. You can shoot an email to Cressey at ec@ericcressey.com He's a busy guy but he's usually pretty good at returning emails.

I had the problem as well. Took a little more than 2 months to heal. Then I made sure to get back into it slowly, using light weights at the start. I understand your frustration, I think that's really common! Definitely started paying more attention to rotator cuff exercises and I've been good ever since. My doctor thought the cause was from performing single arms rows. Who knows . . .

this problem has hit me too , ive been out for over 2months now and am getting frustrated. i dont want to rush it tho cos i dnt want to start training and then have to be out agen.

Thanks!
I picked up the external roations from "Scrawy to brawny" as well.
Any more suggestions that worked for you?

Thanks Evo and Jenn both. I will drop Eric Cressey a line.
