Should I hold off on the creatine/protein?

My main focus is lifting. I'm thinking about adding creatine and a protein powder to my workout routine. I'm not overweight; but I'm also going to add in some cardio to burn off some excess fat. Should I wait until I burn off some weight or can I go ahead and start the creatine/protein right away? Thanks.

At first glance tho, dont use creatine(right now) but do use protein powder. About 1g of powder per body weight a day, for starters.
