Hi,
I am new to this site and hope that someone here will be able to answer my question. Here is the situation: Over the past few months, I have been focused on cutting fat. My workout schedule has alternated between a day of cardio (1 hour, burning approximately 600 calories each session) and a day of weights (I worked all of my muscle groups - I also did a few hundred push ups (sets of 40 and 25, alternating) and about 30 pull ups when i came home. I am happy with what this schedule did - along with a very careful diet, i have managed to lose (almost) all of the fat that i set out to loose.
Now, I am changing my focus to muscle building. I have been drinking 2 scoops of 100 percent whey protein everyday and have been lifting weights on a schedule similar to that that i did when i was cutting fat. This past weekend, I was talking to some very experienced guys at the gym and they advised me to change my routine up: rather than doing full body every other day, i should do one day of bicepts / tricepts, one day of back, and on day of chest (this week I did legs on chest day). After each cycle, they said that I should take a break from the weights and do a day of cardio before starting from scratch. I like this, because it allows me to focus more on each individual muscle group. Is this a better idea for gaining muscle, or should I stick to my old routine? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
