Should I be burning an "X" amount of calories per workout?

Pretty much what the title says...

is there an "x" amount of calories I should be burning per workout.

Here is my routine. Right now my goal is to burn fat mainly (so I do about 30 minutes on the treadmil) but I'm also mixing in weight training in there (as i was told that my metabolism increases if I mix cardio and weight training). anyway, I just started working out, again (got side tracked a bit. LOL!), and I've noticed that the amount of calories I burn per workout has increased. todays workout on the treadmil I burned about 335 calories. The prior workout I burned like 275 and the one prior to that was only 200. Then I thought to myself is there a certain amount of calories I should be burning per workout....

thanks in advance for the help

Depends on how many calories you're taking in and how many you want to burn, and ultimately, what your goals are. Simple formula for calorie defecit:

Calorie defecit = Calories burned - Calories consumed

You can make the timespan a day, a month, it doesn't really matter. Know that if you're trying to burn fat, 1 lbs of fat is roughly 3500 calories. So when your accumulated calorie deficit adds up to 3500 cals, you'll have burned a lbs of fat.

Let's say you burn, without exercise, 2,500 calories per day. Now let's say you eat 3,000 calories per day. In order to have a caloric deficit (I say shoot for around a minimum daily 500 calorie deficit) you can:

(a) Cut back your eating by 1000 calories a day
(b) Increase your exercise by 1000 calories a day
(c) Combine cutting back your calorie consumption by healthier eating and increasing your calorie burn through more exercise

It's a pretty simple formula - what you plug in depends entirely on you.

I don't think you could have made that any easier. Thanks for the help! I now have a better understanding. I'll have to start burning a lot more while working out
