Shopping when you have a family

I have a 3 year old, a 1 year old and my 18 year old sister lives with us. My fiance...naturally never gains a pound..he's 32 and still weights a 160 lbs at 5'11... but how we grocery shop can be very snack oriented...especially because of my three year year old and 18 year old sister (who is also in good shape) my daughter prefers water over juice boxes..but my sister makes a big deal if there isnt soda in the house... or junk food...

has anyone had success with a family diet? or do you just use self control to not go for the things that you are used to and are easily accessible? My fiance is very supportive, he goes on walks with me, has helped me find healthier recipes...(we are italian/puerto rican and portuguese...our traditional foods are not the healthiest) so we have to go outside our comfort zones.

We try not to bring junk food into the house and just use it for special occasions. We do a monthly meal plan up (suppers) and shop weekly. We involve everyone in the planning so that we all have a say. I have to monitor myself for portions, but everyone eats the same things to make life easy. If one of us wants special treats, we buy it with our own money and it doesn't have to be shared.

I have an 8 year old and I try to find healthy snacks that she likes, also I found snacks that only she likes and I don't like, for example she loves chips ahoy chewy cookies, I can't stand them so its not a problem. Just talk to your family and make a list of snacks they want and pick healthy or ones you don't like.
