I don't expect anyone to read this or care, but it will be nice to track my progress and calorie intake realistically and with accountability somewhere. I've never kept a food journal namely because I'm lazy and somewhat apprehensive about seeing the truth on paper but here I am taking the plunge. I don't have the healthiest diet but I'm working on it.

Yesterday
(was a cheat day)

Morning weigh-in: 61.0 kg/134 lbs

Breakfast:
-Nothing, overslept. Black coffee is 0 calories.

Lunch:
-2 seaweed rice balls, small bag of fried chicken, grapes. 450? calories.

Snack:
-Vegetable juice, macadamia nut cookie. 330? calories

Dinner:
-Omurice w/ketchup and mayo, 1 cheese/potato ball, 1 Kahlua milk cocktail. 950-1000? calories.

No real exercise, just 15 minute walk/sprint to the station to catch a cab as I overslept. Still, no sustainable weight gain, this morning's weigh-in was the exact same.

SURVEY

How much weight do you want to lose? 15-20 lbs

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? 10 months...lots of time.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? Eating clean, portion control, regular cardio and strength training.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? Just me, and of course my friends and family are supportive

-- How realistic is your goal? Totally doable.

-- When will you start? I've already started, in March 2010.

What is your current height and weight? 5'4/163 cm, 134 lb/61.0 kg

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? 115-120

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? 125-128

Why do you want to lose weight? I'd like to be "slim" or "petite" to complement my bone structure.

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? No, though I suppose my goal date of moving back to America counts.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? Eating and drinking and getting lazy.

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? I don't really have a problem these days, but in the past it was from simply eating too much and not exercising much.

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? More exercise, fewer ice creams!

Have you lost weight in the past? Yes.

If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? The first big weight drop was appetite loss due to teenage angst/depression. The second was just conscientious eating well and moving more.

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? Complacency - the second weight gain was slow and gradual. I didn't mind enough to put forth the effort to reverse the gain.

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Starvation dieting definitely failed. Going to the gym twice a day every day of the week was also excessive and I burned out.

Why do you think it did not work? Extreme methods can't be sustained for life.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? I would, but I don't feel it necessary.

Do you cook at home often? Usually 4-5 days a week.

If so, what do you cook? Pasta, rice, curries, more recently it's been vegetable stir-fries with tofu instead of starchy carbs.

How often do you go out to eat? 2-3 times a week

Where do you go? Varies. Usually generic Japanese restaurants, sometimes fast food (maybe 2-3 times a month)

What are your three favorite foods? Butadon (sliced pork on rice with onions), pad thai, and Chinese takeout

What are your three favorite restaurants? PF Changs, any Thai restaurant, and I love Cheesecake Factory's salads.

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food? Less empty carbs (white rice etc), more fruits and vegetables, stop eating those addictive 7-11 bagel sandwiches for breakfast

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? Who knows. I'd probably find something else to fret and obsess over. I would definitely take myself out shopping ASAP to replace my mediums with smalls at Zara!

Do you eat when you are not hungry? Sometimes, but I've gotten a LOT better.

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? Very, very rarely. Maybe once a month.

Do you hide your food or eat in secret? No.

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed? Not differently than normal.

Do you eat as a reward? Not going to deny it - yes.

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer? Yes, but only dinners. I don't snack.

What do you normally eat for a meal? The school lunch (rice and a main with soup), vegetable stir-fries with tofu, pasta.

What type of snacks do you eat? Chocolate, calcium supplement bars, bananas. Snacking is kept to a minimum.

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing? I walk 40 minutes each way up a steep hill to work, and I try to jog 4-5 miles a few times each week. On days I don't run I do an exercise video and pushups at home or just dance around my apartment (ah, living alone has its perks!).

Where do you go for exercise? The rice fields around my apartment.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise? Running, dancing, and walking/hiking. I wish I enjoyed weight training.

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? I'm forbidding myself to buy nice clothes until I'm "done" losing weight, and currently all my clothes are too big. I'm a huge shopping addict and dress up every day so this is kind of a big thing.

Do you have rewards for certain goals? The smugness and satisfaction of seeing your own progress is reward enough!

I really wanted to run but I have metatarsalgia or something similar to it in my left foot - basically the ball of the foot feels like a giant bruise and walking is painful, especially in bare feet. Apparently the cure is rest, which is tough considering I have to walk a minimum of 20 minutes each way to get to work.

Overall if I could eat that well every day I could probably be as slim as I wanted. Something to consider.

Today's astronomical intake...

Hey, tomorrow's another day. My foot feels way better than before. It was pretty embarrassing writing this down which I believe is the purpose of these things. Tomorrow is a new day.
