Shed it once and for all - Shedthatblubber's Diary

Hey all, I am a newbie here. So let me first introduce myself. I am a 25 year old guy who always had a little trouble with weight. I was never lean or skinny throughout my life ... not morbidly obese either ..but towards the bulky side. But these past couple of years my I have put on some serious weight and I am afraid if I don't act now, I would be like those folks who I see in the hospital. I am a student by trade ... medical student .... and due to stress and studying during the first 2 years I put on quite a bit of fat. Since now I am in clinical years, I am a little more active but not nearly enough. I see patient's every day .. the co-morbidities that they have due to obesity, its appalling. If you eliminate obesity, Diabetes, Sleep apnea, joint pain, Hypertension, Hypercholesterolemia etc would all go away in a flash in majority of the people.

I have assisted in several lap band and Roux-en-Y and have seen patients put on weight even after that. Out of all these experiences, I came to the conclusion that nothing helps but the determination within the person themselves .. no surgery, no medication, nothing can help us if we fall back into our own habit. Best and long term solution to weight loss is life-style change and healthy eating. Once I graduate, I can't imagine being an obese doctor telling patients to lose weight because their A1c is off the charts or their LDL is elevated. Anyhow, I just got back from the visiting family for holidays and I ate a lot !!!

So I will post here every day in this thread and record what I ate, what I did, how did I feel, any ups and downs and every 2 weeks I will record my weight ...

I hope you guys join me and I welcome any suggestions you have in any regard. We are all in this together !!!

Hi there, I'm a newbie too. I just wanted to say I think we can achieve with this wonderful support system and best wishes in meeting your goals.

Hey there :) Always great to have people on board who have seen the future with their own eyes.
Best of luck on your journey, LaMa.

A big welcome from me too. I agree with you that it is determination, eating healthy & a lifestyle change that is needed. I have seen so many people find their way to get lots of calories around their lapband. You have to really want to be healthy & do it. We'll be with you along the way. I may have to call you doc though, as shedthatblubber is a bit too big a handle. All the best from me too. Cheers, Cate.

Thanks for the kind words ! So lets see ...today was terrible

Day 1

Weight 250 (BMI = 38)

Breakfast = One small apple ~ 80
Lunch = 2 pieces of fried chicken breast ~ 800
Dinner = 2 pieces of fried chicken breast ~ 800
Water melon Juice = 4-5 cups LOL (thanks Mariano's!) ~ 350

No workout/exercise except delivering bunch of babies and running around in the hospital if that counts

So thats easily like 2030 calories easily

I was planning on doing 1200 calorie diet but there is already so much of junk lying around in the house that I can't resist. I was thinking maybe I should throw away junk stuff like nutella, chips, etc but I feel bad throwing away food when people in other countries are starving

Hey there,
I'm a newbee too :D
Since sept. 2014 till dec. 2015 i lost 30 kilos but i still have 40 kilos to hit my target
What you said is very true
To lose weight is a deep will and your life style that you choose
I'll tell you my experience mayby it could help
I eat everything literally but i eat as long as the sun is still up
Once the sun goes to sleep i start my walk and fruits
Try to count the calories you consume and set your self a goal calorie depending on your daily activity
Always keep possitive people arround you
If you have any questions just let me know
Good luck

1200 kcal is really low for a dude (you are a guy, right? I just realized I´m not 100% szre about that :D ), especially if you want to keep it up for a while. On the other hand: you´re the doctor! Those chips aren´t going to keep anyone from starving, whether you throw them into the bin or you poop them out after consumption. Anything packed you can probably leave lying around in the staff room, someone´s bound to open and eat it.

Day 2 and Day 3

Went to crap. Didn't really cared what I ate. I wake up early, take a shower etc. and then run back to work. I don't eat breakfast because somehow I am always in rush. Even if I set my alarm clock early so I could make something before I leave, I end up snoozing it. My lunch mostly get skipped because I am in the OR and can't leave. Sometimes I have those snack bars which i eat but mostly nada.

So when I get home, I am so tired, I shove my face with nasty unhealthy food and go to bed.

I just need structure in my life, a routine, I am just so tired of this shizz. Thanks for listening folks

Ah... I hear you on that. Meal prep would be my (and your) friend if it weren´t for the fact that I hate it. Having something ready in the fridge would make the healthy choice a lot easier, especially when I´m tired. O, and of course if your body has been denied calories for a day (or longer) it isn´t interested in healthy anymore. A new day today, time to get back up and make it one where you lose, not gain a couple of grams.

Welcome! An apples is not much for breakfast. Also, if you like chicken maybe cook it another way other than frying and add some vegetables. Having a balanced diet is important.
