Sex Drive and Weight Loss

Hi all!

I am starting this thread to discuss sex drive and weight loss. Has anyone noticed a rise or fall of their sex drives with the changes in eating/weight/exercise? I looked all over the forum and did not find anything related to the sex drive and think this is an interesting topic to bring up. I am noticing difference for sure, but was not sure if it was just because I feel better about my body or because of something medical.

I looked it up online and found this interesting little article dealing with the subject:

Better Sex: What's Weight Got to Do with It?

Let me know your thoughts and experiences. I am interested in hearing about the experience of others and your possible reasons...

I have never noticed an increased sex drive when I lose weight. On the flip side, I have always found it ironic that when I get pregnant is always when I have just gained a bunch of weight or in the process of gaining. While losing or maintaining a weight I never get pregnant, but the minute I jump 30 lbs. up then it happens.

Losing weight = getting slimmer, more defined contours, sexier bum, hip bones, etc.
Getting slimmer = more confidence
More confidence = better sex life

By being more confident, my sex life has got better.

Well from the male perspective...

The top 5 reasons weight loss is good for the sex drive...

5. Too much weight makes...hip movement...more difficult. ::doh:

4. The added self-confidence of being thinner and healthier is sexy to your partner :)

3. Being able to make love more vigorously when you are thinner involves the major muscle groups, causes elevated heart and respiratory rates and if it lasts 12 minutes or more counts as an aerobic workout. :hug2:

2. As you get thinner, more positions become possible and less dangerous!

But the top reason is:

1. When your body shrinks, things that stay the same size look bigger!

Tee hee hee!

oh my, lol

yea, weight loss is GREAT for the sex drive, i know added energy and self confidence goes along way!

Not just being confident though...

I know that the confidence, looking better naked, being light etc...helps. But I have a friend who was losing weight and felt no desire - almost like she got her "rush" from exercise. So I am curious as to whether people have felt that they have sex on the mind more, for example. Not just the actual physical act being more pleasant. Has anyone felt that they are changing or thinking about it more?

Thanks for all of these responses. I feel like this is an entertaining topic and that we will get some fun posts. ;)

xoxo

I've been accused on my training walks of being a hormonaly charged boy crazy teenager... :)

and I think Steve might say I'm a little obsessed :) really I'm harmless... :D I've always been like this..

Do I think about sex more - oh god yes, but that's primarily because it's been ... counts on fingers... moves to toes.... 17 months since I got any... I NEED SEX!!!

Oh cripes did I say that out loud? :D

No really, my desire to get laid hass nothing to do with losing weight, I still look like crap so it's not a confidence thing -it's entirelly about deprivation...

I've noticed my libido hasn't changed either way. If anything, i'll say it decreased.

I guess i'm just trying to focus just on my goal, and when the time comes, then what will be will be. Or maybe the fact that I've been overweight all my life my play a role.

I try not to dwell on it to much.

for me weight loss increases my sex drive...up to a point. when i get to a low weight/low body fat percentage then my sex drive dries up and hides.

Hmm... I was thinking about this earlier. My desire is decreasing. It's like I don't need sex with the hubby to help me feel better about myself. [Of course, divorce seems to be in the future, so...] I was wondering if it's the thrill of bike riding or the subtle changes I feel about myself. I guess I still don't know.

for me yes my sex drive has increased

my sex drive before i started changing the way i eat and now that i exercise more has increased my sex drive. Before I found myself not wanting it as much but when you don't see your hubby for 6 months to a year at a time sex really isn't something that you get a lot of. My sex drive decreased after i had my son and was spending all my time focusing on his needs. Now that he's older and i don't have to spend every minute of the day carrying him or feeding him its a little easiser focusing on my exercises and stuff. So i would say yes it has changed not so much thinking about it as it has physically. the thought of doing it just makes it so much harder when you can't have it. lol since i won't see my hubby for another 8 months and 3 wks. and that was after only getting to see him for 2 wks in june but before that was 6 months without any too.

i just hope he can keep up with me when i finally do get to my goal weight of 150 lbs.. if not lower i am thinking my final goal weight will be 125 but will think more about that once i get to 150

wow guys, this thread is getting deppressing!!! lol

Come on! sex is fun!! lol Get in the game! lol

I have had incresded sex drive. I also have found that my knees hurt alot less..therefore giving me back some options from long ago, I have always been confident with my body no matter my size..however I must admit fitting into sexier lingere is a plus.

Exactly what I am going through right now! I started my wweight loss program about 2 months ago, I have lost over 44 pounds and my drive is way down, ocassionally I think about it but usually when I;m on the train to work!!! I can't wait to get back on the treadmill or go out an walk 10 miles, the rush of walking miles and miles feels so good. I think it is simply that I so tired from the exercise, that I just don;t think about it, hopefuly it will pick up soon, once my exercise regime evens out and is less intense once the weight is off ( only another 56 pounds to go!!!

Strangely about 2 years ago I lost about 35 pounds in 3 months simply on a starvation diet, that time my drive didn't go and actually got more intense, so I can only put it down to the exercise making me too tired to care about it!

Surprised

This is my first post here, which most likely says more about me than I mean it to, but I've taken of 120 pounds in the past 18 months. My libido is always high, but when I am losing fast, like if I lose over 2 pounds in a week - there is an absolute chemical change. It is like a rush. If I'm not losing it is more...controlled.

So I think weight loss can change hormonal levels a bunch. imho
