Seek Help. Please read and suggest.

Hello Everyone,
this is anurjan, and i m new here.

I have been having this problem of fitness for my whole life. I am 25 and I weigh about 185lbs. I had tried several work-outs before. But now, just couple of weeks back I started it again. Good-old formula of DIET+WORK OUT. I want to reduce the massive fat that grew around my belly, both on front and two sides. So, less food-more sweat is what I thought better.
Due to my early working hours, I can not manage to exercise in morning. So this is what I do right from the morning-
-glass of water + a cup of coffee (milk-sugar).
-I don't eat breakfast. Have coffee instead.
-Have a lunch in afternoon-2 slices bread and some cheese-pickle or vegetables.
-Coffee in late afternoon.
-Go home and exercise at about 5:00. I feel hungry before starting it but afterwards its gone, even during dinner I feel not to eat.
-I exercise for about 20-25 minutes. that include sit-ups, push-ups, simple aerobics, some stomach exercise (that gives pain) and dumbbells (moderate to heavy).
-I have 2 slices of bread and some rice for dinner. I sleep about 2 hours after having dinner.
-I drink about 3-4 glasses of water each day.

Please suggest me if my eating pattern of OK and healthy. If not, what should I have? Also if the work-out and its time is OK. Is it unhealthy to exercise on an empty stomach.

Thanks!!!

You dont have breakfast!!!! :O you really need to start eating breakfast because your body has eaten for hours and it will slow your metabolism right down and your probably putting on weight when eating your lunch so never skip meals

yeah thats really unhealthy not having breakfast seriously... it slows your metabolism down so much, and you should have more protein, like some natty peanut butter, or lean meats.

also you shouldnt be "hungry" when you work out it can start muscle catabolism(breaking down of muscle for energy) have a apple or two before you start your work out, and have something else in your diet besides pure carbs, and coffee.

another thing dont work out every day your body needs at least 24 to 48 of rest between work outs to build the muscle, muscle burns fat just excisting.

you need to be drinking more water, i usually have about 10 to 15 liters probally to much for you, cause i have like 100 lbs on you, but try having around 5 to 10 liters a day, to keep hydrated and keep your metabolism up.

Where are the veggies?
More Veggies and some fresh fruit! YuM!

Carbs alone will not get you anywhere. Protein to help with conditioning muscle and maitaining it but try to add more produce as well.

FYI - 1 cup of coffee depletes the body of the equivalent of 8 glasses of water!
See the thread about how much water you need in a day aswell.

Chin up! You'll get there;)

the caffine in coffee can help a bit with raising your metabolism but yeah it does take ALOT of water out of you, probally not a good idea having so much of it.

I will certainly have lots of water everyday, thanks for replying. One more Q just popped into my mind, has smoking anything to do with loosing weight? (I won't ask "does smoking affect health?", as i already know the answer). I am regular smoker (10 on working days and ~20 on weekends).... If it affects somehow, can it be counteracted by something, in case one can't give smoking up at first or for a long period??

No but it sure makes cardio hard on ya

Amen brother. If your really want to see results for your effort, you need to be able to go as hard as you can with cardio, whether it be moderate and slow, or High intensity. Giving up the butts is the BEST thing I ever done. You can do it too, be strong.

You are certainly not eating enough. There is no way you will lose body fat by eating so little. You really need to start your day with a wholesome breakfast (some oatmeal and eggs and fruit) and keep fueling your body throughout the day with clean, nutritious foods. 2 slices of bread and rice is not a meal! You need protein (egg whites, chicken, tuna, etc.) and veggies and fruit! You are seriously lacking in the nutrition department.

Another thing about under eating is that it s--l--o--w--s your metabolism. So you are actually hurting your efforts to lose fat. faster metabolism = more fat lose

Come on, you can eat vegetables all day and not gain weight! Add those raw veggies to your diet.

What kind of bread do you use? White bread or Whole Wheat? Whole Wheat (darker the better!) is the best for you, I believe, it tastes a little wierd if you've never had it before, but the taste grows on you :) I used to hate it...then I accidently tried it and fell in love :p

That's a lot of carbs! They're good for energy, if you're going to burn them, but that's a lot. I agree with the others, more veggies and fruits!

I used to eat white ones, now I eat whole wheat bread and it tastes better that white one.

Now, I understand from replies that eating 'what i am eating' will do no good, and believe me thats great news for me. I was browsing thro' some articles and I came to know that about 1900-2000 kcal are OK for me, considering my work and life style. I'll add veggies and eggs and juice to me diet. Thank you all of you!!

But what about my excercise? So far I guessed, 'no comments' means 'no changes'. I would really appreciate if someone tells me or rather advice me how to workout, effectively, at home.

i prefer 12-grain bread its like whole wheat but its got a bunch of nuts and oats mixed in with it, and tastes good on its own.

Does egg give acidity?..I had juice and an egg a while ago and now my chest is feeling soar. Is that what you guys feel after having a light snack? I didn't exercise today, I guess it doesn't matter if you do or don't after eating something....I am soooo confused.....

I never knew juices give chest-pain. I thought pineapple and guava were healthy...

Or may be it's fat burning inside :p....who knows??

Glad we could help! Let us know if you need any specific recipes or meal ideas.

And yes, 1900-2000 calories is probably just right for your activity level.

I think you have a good start w/ your exercising, although depending on your goals, you may want to add some cardio and a weight-training program.

guys, this is really wierd. I did as I was told. I increased my diet. Now I eat thrice a day. I eat beans and eggs alongwith enough carbs. I also eat a little an hour or two before work-out. But, I feel more bulky and fatty (my waist has increased and so has my stomach fat), instead of feeling light. I think I was doing O.K. when I wasn't eating much and when I was empty-stomached while exercising.......Confusion again!! Please resolve......

What you may be experiencing is your body's reaction to coming out of starvation mode. Your caloric intake was WAY to low. Your body, in all of its primal wisdom, has decided to store a bit of excess fat just in case you try that again.

Starvation mode is based on a theory that in prehistoric times, food was scarce. The body had to find a way to conserve its long term energy stores (read fat). It did this by fighting for every little bit of fat it can put on, slowing metabolism to a crawl, and catabolising muscle tissue.

Whats happening (its normal for what your going through) is you are indeed gaining a bit of weight while your metabolism adjusts back up to normal range. Don't get discouraged, don't stop doing it. I can almost guarantee (if you keep eating clean and exercising) that the weight will start coming off.
