Scott's Fat to Fit Diary

It seems like I've been down this road before, but I'm going to take control of my body and my appetite.

Just like everyone else, I have challenges. I eat too much of the wrong foods and don't exercise at all. I am a software engineer, so I spend my days sitting at a desk typing. At home, I already don't feel I have enough time to spend with my beautiful wife and 15 month old daughter - but I know if things don't change, I may not be around long enough to grow old with them.

So here's my kick-off stats and "before" pictures. My first goal is that I want to get down to my college weight of 214 pounds. You can also track my food and exercise at my dailyburn.com log at

Work Lunches

So I work in Downtown Minneapolis and right about 11:30, one or more of my coworkers gear up and get ready to find some lunch in the skyway. Today it was just two of us and i mentioned that we should find someplace a bit healthier than we used to. So he recommends an upscale sandwich/deli place we've been to before. As we are going through the line to select the premade sandwich and salad, I can picture my food log in my mind and how it was slipping away for today. The healthiest thing I could find was half roasted chicken sandwich on a ciabatta roll but it had some creamy sauce on it and came with a chicken Gorgonzola pasta salad. I felt pretty weak every time I took a bite. (We even discussed our past weight issues and how our families handled food while we were growing up)

It's nice to hang out with some of these guys and I think it is good networking for future jobs after we all get laid off on April 2, but this is the sort of behavior that helped get me up to 277 pounds. If I want to lose the weight, something's going to have to give and my behaviors are going to have to change.

I can definitely relate to the lunch dilemma. I find it difficult to eat out with my co-workers without compromising my healthy eating plans. They like the sports bars, and there is not much healthy to be found in those places!! I like the social/professional aspect of eating out, but I may have to take a break for a while if I am going to lose the weight. Hopefully they will not take it personally!

Hang in there - you can do this!!
