Hi all..
I suffer from scoliosis..

not all kind of training is allowed for me.. even though the degree of my back curve is 20 degrees I cant do everything.

The doc advised me to swim a lot.. I dont do that a lot bec i dont like to swim that much..

I cant lift heavy equipment and also do heavy training at the gym.. and if I do it, then I should have a good posture and if I get tired then stop.

Anyone else suffers from this?
Did you know that 80% of girls have it.. and dont know?
If you think your back hurts that much... try seeing a doctor, or else it can become worse!!

thanks for listening,

suzan

I think its more like 80% of girls that have scoliosis, dont know they have it. Not 80% of all girls have scoliosis.

You should check with your doc before starting any new exercise. You should also take his advice and start swimming. You may not like it, but doing something you dont like for an hour, 3 times a week could add year and years to your life and keep you stronger, healthier and happier.
Plus, a doc wont be that willing to help you out if your not taking the advice he has already given you.

I also have scoliosis, I have had it since i was about 9 and I am now 26. The swiming is an awsome way to get exercise. I also like to weight train. If it was not for my wight training i believe that my scoliosis would be worse. But remember you always have to use good posture and dont try to lift more than you can. Also focus on your core muscles they are very im portant for your posture. By the way you can also bike if you like that. Good luck

I dont actually like bike...
And haven't done any swimming for like two years.. I had sometimes only on vacation!!
I am trying to lose some weight as I feel better lighter, and my backpain decreases!
The degree of the curve is not bad.. it is only 20.. I realized I had Scoliosis when I was 15 (very late) and managed to get phisiotherapy..

I walk.. do sit up (not that much as it harms my back sometimes) but try my best to stay fit.

And you are right R.Lewis.. not all the girls know they have it.. but most of them do have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

I have scoliosis in two areas of my back. Wasn't noticed until I was 30 as they are very minor.

Weight training definitely helps my back pain, I did a lot of light weights at first to get great form down pat before increasing.

I went to a whole range of specialists and chiro, acupuncure, physio, none really did me a whole lot of good. I do some swimming and a whole lot of core training and for the most part I feel pretty alright.
