Scared of getting fat

I have been weight lifting seriously for close to 6 months now with the aim of building muscle mass.

I keep reading, and hearing, that for rapid muscle growth you basically need to eat and eat and eat. I'm fine with this but i can't help but worry that i'll just start to get fat and lose any muscle definition.

Has anyone got any comments/experience on this?

To build muscle mass we basically have to lift (heavy) weights and stay in a slight calorie surplus. Calorie needs depend on how active a person is throughout the day.

Also, try to make up most of the calories with carbs and protein and keep fats low, there are controversies about how the percentage of carbs and protein in diets, I personally think 40% carbs 30% protein 30% fat is more plausible for busy ppl.

It is nearly impossible ..(unless with access to precise scientific measuments as to how much carbs/protein/fat u burn) to maintain your bodyfat while adding muscle mass. A common method is to "bulk up" first and then "cutting".

Don't be afraid to bulk..because the added muscles during that process will increase your metabolism, which help you burn the extra fat off faster.

That all i can help =)

most bodybuilders gain mass just like Come2me said, they put on massive muscle and moderate fat, then burn the fat off. They cycle bulking/cutting.

just keep good tabs on your progress. a scale, skinfold caliper and cloth tape measure all tell a story that lets you know in which direction you're heading. those who learn from their results or lack thereof stay miles ahead of the rest. ;)
